I used to think that I'd give an invite out to any RL friend that knew how to use bittorrents and would promise to be good on the trackers they became a member of. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I recently invited one of our RL friends to What.CD because he was super eager to get into a good music tracker since Oink went down.

A month later I catch wind that the rest of my invites were taken away because our friend didn't log in for over a month and got himself disabled.

Thank God it wasn't to Waffles or I would have tracked him down and given him a swift kick in the nuts, which I'm sure his GF wouldn't be too appreciative of. Since then he's kinda been avoiding us. I wonder why?!

Needless to say I don't know who I can trust anymore with that recent inccident being a prime example of "WTF"?

Agree, just if that buddy doesn't log in ect- then maybe a ban? that w- suck! Plus what about the person who invited you to the-? basically putting their status @ risk too.As the above post reads. grimms is right ...Some sites are irreplaceable-hard to keep ratio up-ect and i trust my buddies but do not know if they know enough to handle certain things-dht-little things that are in the rules-some people just want to get in and dl all they can, I would have to walk them thru the rules.I am stingy. Lol.

The question I would raise to myself is "Would my friend understand the ratio system, read the faq, rules, and comprehend them, also be a great member, who could contribute and make the community better"? Only one of my real friends grasps the concept of torrenting. The rest have no clue or business, involving themselves in the BT World.

I take my friends with me to the top. No point in being at the top all alone.

I would invite my friends as well but they have to learn and know what they are doing. I had one friend that just wanted to start right out with bitmetv . That was a little much for a total noob... Made him learn the ropes first. He did thank me in the end. This prevented him from getting banned from great trackers and later regretting it when he finally figured it all out..

That is my point, but even if your friend had a ratio of 20. at Td or something, some sites do not put up with some things that others do. You want them to see what you see but no way would you take
There are many reasons to why this thread is relevant! I think you are right with that decision Kapone.....
Have a couple n mind... but will not say the names, a simple thing such as that can get a friend in trouble,if they are drunk.lol. or if your friend decides to let his girl play w- his account or his other buddies, That is why i do not do giveaways, i know it is selfish but it is not clear if they are allowed anywhere and track rules say no to most so i respect that n will not break it!

I'm with Kapone . I start my friends off on easy to seeds sites like TD or RevTT to teach them the ropes but once they get the hang of it, understand the ropes, and are confident in what they are doing. I bring them straight to the top. I mean after all these are you friends. They are the ones that get you home safe after a night of drinking. They are the ones that help you forget/drink away a broken heart. They are the ones that show up at 2 AM in the morning no matter what the problem. There is nothing I would deny a friend. Why should bittorrent be one of them? But I do admit I help my friends out with ftp and seedbox axx. I don't want to see them fail.

You have to be careful with Real Life friends. I have invited a few in the past, to good BT trackers like Oink. The biggest problems my friends have trouble understanding, is the ratio system, and how and why, you need to seed (Leave your computer on basically, with files seeding). Also logging in is quite profound as well. Is it really hard to log in, once every 30 days at least? It's weird. I didn't really start dispersing my invites out as much, until I came upon this site on October 27th 2007.

But now i'm going back to my old stingy ways, of hoarding my invites. Unless I come across a very trustworthy member, who I think deserves an invite. Real Life friend or not. Just be careful and make sure, your "Real Life" friends understand the concepts, behind Bittorrent, before you give them an invite. Remember your responsible for their actions if their apart of your Invite Tree.

    Excuse Me?
    Didn't Think So!

i started "training" my friends, using torrents from TPB, just to understand how torrenting works.
Then i got them to bitsoup and filelist, for them to get the hang of fulfilling ratios (sites with lots of leechers, easy to keep a ratio). Then, when i saw they were "ready" for it, the big fat invites came along. (they all became power users at pussytorrents quite quickly )

after all, as chiefosceola said, they're the ones you go drink with, pickup girls, play poker, etc etc. Torrents aren't more important than that.

I have invited a few friends

    1. OiNK, Waffles and another one. Good user on all (was PU+ on OiNK when it was taken down)
    2. OiNK, Waffles. Good user on both
    3. OiNK. Deleted for inactivity with terrible ratio and under a GB up/down
    4. TTi. Exellent user. Waffles, not doing too good but improving
    5. TTi. Had some trouble at first but getting there
    6. Demonoid, good user. TTi, terrible ratio, won't listen. Will be banned very soon. Waffles. Terrible ratio and went past free zone (+5GB down). Will be banned soon probably.

So like I said in first post. Depends on the friend. And all of them knew how to use torrents before I invited them. Some just weren't to familiar with ratio.

None. Contrary to popular belief, the internet is not serious business.

I think I forgot to adjust for the age of a majority (if most trackers polls are to be believed). I think I judge friends by those that I've known since high school and those met in the military. I think friends in your teens and early twenties is a little different those that you still have in your thirties. I think it all is on perspective on what you consider a friend. In my opinion a friend is greater find than anything you will find on the internet or on a torrent site. Sure I would hate to lose a tracker, but as far as I'm concerned, a friend is something that cannot be replaced by anything in cyberspace.
