    umm... I for got to mention the nasty end result of this experiment. The foil would rise (with just enough help to get a static layer below it ) and then vibrate violently before shattering and embedding bits of itself in nearby walls. Or researchers&#33;

    I believe this was first observed in large power plants and research facilities when any loose screws, bolts, or bits of metal would propel themselves through things at random.

    I didn&#39;t realise you meant that sort of electrical field, I thought you meant a static field.

    That technology is old hat now, it has been used for separating metallic waste for years.
    Use electromagnets to remove magnetic waste first.
    Then use a moving electrical field to remove aluminium products.
    Then grind up the residual waste and repeat the above processes to remove smaller and embedded items.

    I must be getting old. In my days( now I sound old) magnetic fields had no effect on aluminium
