I agree with Sgt. I think making a ton of friends (or just a few important ones maybe? ) is most crucial to getting into a lot of the more selective trackers. Unless you want to resort to buying/trading ... But as you all should know that never really gets you anywhere.

I hate how you refer to 'friends' as being a tool to get into trackers and the ones with the invites as being most important. The 'important' people are usually not too stupid, seeing as they've gotten there already and they won't fall for people sucking up to them bullshit.
If you make a good public image of yourself then the trackers you want will come in due course. Being a great torrenter and looking like an asset to a site would help as well. Real friends will probably help you out along the way but you should never count on or expect anything from their friendship (which is what makes them a friend in the first place). Friends are people you have gotten to know over time, maybe through many irc discussions or an active shoutbox or forum. If you don't know their personality or vice versa then you probably don't know each other enough to fit under your supposed definition of a friend. At least from my perspective that's how I see it.
