On my machine running XP pro with a lot of programs running, shutdown takes about 15 seconds.
The entire restart cycle takes 35-40 seconds.

Make sure that you are not clearing the page file at shutdown.
That can slow things down dramatically.

Have to say that i agree. XP shuts down in no time.

xp takes me about 15 seconds or so to shut down usually
although if i've just been working the computer hard (playing a game, encoding video etc) it usually takes a little while longer...

No not really. I figured I would see if I could get you all rouled up since its the weekend and all.
