    So, my "YES" vote was correct after all.

    How much time are you going to waste on this (relatively) inexpensive part?

    I'd recommend a 24 hour diagnostic.
    Post the new results every 30 minutes.

    Then, just to be safe, remove and reseat the RAM (messing with RAM is de regueur and useful no matter the issue).
    Regrease and adjust the wheel bearings.

    None of this will have any effect whatsoever on the dead HDD but will keep us amused and is therefore useful.
