it's a good way to attract attention to a thread...
as for the actual topic, i like it when the movies are really wide, like your example of bad boys 2 B)

the reson they do that is it is true wide screen. On my tv 4:3 when i set my dvd player for 16:9 and then pop in a wide screen dvd it plays like that, but when not in that mode it plays with just a little room on the top or bottom (a few inches vs 6-7). It is just how the movie was shot and that is how they encode it. It is just that a lot of times people are not use to real wide screen (which is a slightly diffrent ratio) and more of 16:9.

mm i found that when its encided really small you can use power dvd to paly them and it makes em back to normal. thats if they are mpeg
