Here you go AL, strain your brain, it's good exercise.
That viperlair mod is all very well, but did you notice the ram they were using - PC3200. This is fine if you've bought the rig with the intention of overclocking, but if you are looking to overclock an older system you are likely to have PC2700 or even PC2100 ram.

With high performance ram you are bound to get better performance at higher FSB speeds, particularly if you are running synchronously and approach the ram's design speed. But to claim that higher FSB is necessarily the way to go is misleading if you don't have high performance ram (or even if you can't control AGP and PCI speeds separately from FSB).

In this situation, you need to keep your FSB standard, and increase the multiplier to improve cpu performance, since there's not much you can do about memory performance in these circumstances. My system becomes unstable if I push the FSB above about 138MHz (from standard 133), with a cpu speed of 2070MHz (from 2000). I am pretty certain that this is because of the PCI interface, so any increase in performance is going to have to come from multiplier changes.

Fortunately, I've now got a thoroughbred core, so I can just join the pins on the back of the motherboard to unlock it. Once I've done that, I'm going to try a speed of 129mHz with a multiplier of 16 and then gradually raise the FSB again.

Ive overclocked my rig from 1.67 to 1.81ghz (145 * 12.5), increase of fsb from 133 to 145mhz and its stable at this, a further increase of 1mhz on the fsb, causes windows to become unstable. i cannot increase the fsb, without a change in pci and agp frequencies, but my pc seems suprisingly stable at these speeds, so i want to increase the multiplyers, to gain extra potential off my system, as i cant afford a upgrade!

I have the palamino core, so which mod should i try? will the link i pointed out work?

Edit: gone back to 144* 12.5, due to some instability

He probably did try the "strand of copper thing" and ended up in intensive care.

Let's all send flowers.
