Actually the myth has surpassed the truth and a lot of "Bond aficionados*" now consider On Her Majesty's Secret Service to be one of the better Bond films and Lazenby to be a more than adequate Bond.
Most of his bad rap coming from being a stop-gap fill in for Connery and not being actually bad.
The film has a good supporting cast, great locations and the first big skiing sequence. Also it's purely instrumental theme (like Lazenby a one off) is widely regarded, along with the obvious Goldfinger as series best.
On the other hand, most view the invisible car in Die Another Day as being the true low point although personally I rank Bond in a clown costume,Jaws in love and the entirety of Man with the Golden Gun to be right up there.

This is pretty close to how I'd actually rank them.
A lot of critics seem to rank Quantum of Solace a lot lower.I didn't care for it when it came out but it was more a let down from Casino Royale and I actually quite like it now.

Wait, there's another Bond movie coming out?

Yeah it's called Spectre which makes no sense since SPECTRE* is an acronym.
I would say that the producers are just trying for some sly play on words but it's Hollywood so there's as much chance of that as there is of Taylor Swift turning out a song that doesn't make my testicles want to retract up into my abdominal cavity.

And now you know.

This is what I remember when watching OHMSS: I forgot I was watching a Bond movie at some point throughout it. I felt like I left Fleming's universe without realizing when it happened.
Also, thanks Idol. I'm glad you knew me well enough to identify that my ignorance wasn't a farce. So, hail Hydra then.
