    My Childhood favorites:
    C64: Gunship, Pirates!
    Amiga: Wings

Wings was re-Released for PC some time ago. Found it on GOG and it is still Fun to play. Nice story built around the missions, too. If you haven't give it a try.

I'm a massive fan of retro arcade games - in fact, I've built 2 of my own arcade machines - I try and play as many of the old games as I can, but I definitely list these as my top 5:

    Robotron
    Donkey Kong 3
    Progear
    ESP Ra. De.
    Guwange

As you can see, mostly shooters ;-)

Sorry, meant to say, I play mostly via MAME emulation, sadly, I don't have original arcade hardware, just my own home built cab

Come on now you have Mame emu... Donkey Kong/Crazy Kong, Crystal Castles, Defender, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Galaxian, Galaga !!!
I have it running on my original XBOX no cabinet, because i am getting of age and the eyesight is a bit off, i prefer to play it on a 60" TV, but i don't play it widescreen, to keep the arcade effect

For retro games I like whatever came out last Thursday since they are probably already outdated and I now need to spend more money on upgrades.

Me personally, some vintage games will never die, trying to explain this, even know the older games were shooter or repetitive tasks, now games you run around a dessert or made up course looking to kill someone for hours, and not even getting the reward of dreaming you get to schtup the princess once you save her...

To be fair, retro games "cheated" a lot by being very difficult, making extra lives scarce, and occasionally creating situations where the player would unavoidably take damage or die. Hardware of the time didn't allow for lots of huge levels or long-winded storylines, so this was the only way to keep people playing.

If you use some invulnerability hack or simply are a very good player, you'll see that they rarely offered more than one hour of gameplay (Contra can be beat in 13 minutes, Super Mario Bros in five).
