Get a 8x BTC, its almost as cheap as many 4x rewriters, but twice as fast , i've got one and it works perfectly.

tsk too bad i live in a place everything isnt "cheap" lol....

and trying to get a dvd-rw delivered here is kind of a hazard....oh well ill ask my friends see if they can help me there

I saw on an episode of the Screensavers the other day, that Phillips will be coming out with 16x Dvd Burners early in 2004.
Can you imagine how nice those are going to be.

I havnt managed to get hold of 8x dvd+r disks yet, but i've heard i can use some 4x disks at 8 speed, but don't know which brands.

I think ritek dye disks are the best and some can handle 8 speed recording, so might try them out for 8 speed, see if they work.

I think i'll wait another year to buy a 16x writer, the price when this first comes out will be too high for the benefit.

By the end of next year there might be 32 speed writers, who knows

Although I can see how speed may be a factor in your decision, practically speaking, how many DVDs do you plan on burning in one session?

From my reading, some brands are very sensitive to the brand of media you use, thus limiting your choices in that area.
Also, as DVD burners are a fairly new consumer product, long term reliability isn't well known yet.

I think for my first DVD burner I will stick to a reputable manufacturer ( probably Sony) and just live with whatever the burn speed happens to be. 5 or 10 minutes every once and a while will hardly make or break me...
