what are these file that i get from crack and other downloads and what are they for? i try to open them but nothing related to the file it came with its just my system info or something like that.

Right click and then, open with...
select Notepad and check below where it says "always open with this program"
DAMN NFO Viewer is a nice program for viewing .nfos also.
ok thanks all.. so i dont need a app for this like mad cat said? 1 more question... y dont they just use a notepad form to begin with?

a lot of hack/crack groups like to use ASCII art (text art) in their readme files, and while Notepad is a fine text editor, Notepad does not display such text art correctly. so they use the nfo extension and recommend using nfo viewers.Originally posted by 3223@11 January 2004 - 07:06

if you want to see what nfo files are intended to look like, go over to WWW.NFORCE.NL and look at some of the nfos that they've converted into picture files. the text art looks very different from how Notepad displays it.
