when booting I get so far in the sequence then I get the error "invalid boot ini, booting from c:\windows" then continues to boot as normal, how to I change the boot sequence to boot from windows boot ini as opposed to this corrupt ini?

Im not sure but i know if yo have XP you can do start run the type in msconfig and you can configure the boot.ini form there. Also for all windows i think you can use start run type in sysedit and from there you can also edit the boot.ini too.

boot.ini is for multi boot systems. i think you can just delete it and be safe (for windows 98) so long as you only have one OS.
