Both drive on independant IDE cables? Check the jumpers on the drives. Some drives have settings for 'single drive' and won't work if not set to single.
In the BIOS... Set it to 'Auto' or go into the section that is for 'detecting' and let it do that. If that doesn't work then you'll have to set the drives manually (#cyls, #sec. etc.)
