Both drive on independant IDE cables? Check the jumpers on the drives. Some drives have settings for 'single drive' and won't work if not set to single.

In the BIOS... Set it to 'Auto' or go into the section that is for 'detecting' and let it do that. If that doesn't work then you'll have to set the drives manually (#cyls, #sec. etc.)

Edit: Forget my post. I missed the second page altogether.

Check the boot sequence in the BIOS. Put the CD drive before the HDDs.

Is it unattended, slipstreamed Windows, XP?

I'd use WinIso or something to extract the Windows cd to folder somewhere and
    tweak it with nLite:

If you reformat it then the data will be unavailable. If there is data on the drive that you want then I think you need to manually set the #cyls, #sects etc. to be the same as they were in the previous computer.

That sounds confusing. I amanged to get it to work with a highly techinical method, I took it back out and put it back as it was, rebooted, turned it off then put it in again and rebooted and it showed up, pity it didn't the first couple of times

What I thought we take me 30mins today has taken abslolutely hours

    Cheers for the help everyone
