Some scanners do seem to add some blue tho', try playing around with the curves and the saturation, if you have photoshop.
Sounds like a good scanner wrt the dpi, what model & make is it?

thats after inverting and brightness/contrast adjustments. other negatives just scan too dark to play with, would backing it with a mirror do anything?
edit: unknown negative - scanned in colour - played with in photoshop
