how exactly do they decide that a certain cd key is pirated and stop accepting it?
do they check and see if another computer has the same cd key registered?
Plan for the worst, hope for the best

With keys from keygens, I think it's pure maths.

They add a condition the keygens can't yet emulate, which lets them determine that the key is bad.*

As for keys off lists, I think they check them out the same way as we do.

Pretty sure they did it that way with the keys they blacklisted so you can't install SP2 (xp).

It's possible that they also keep track of locations and what keys are used, so that if the same key is used from several locations, they check that out. But I wonder about that since proxies and stuff would screw that up.

Apart from that, they've got privacy statements of their own, and privacy laws in different countries that should prohibit them from registering too much.

With xp (not corp), they (automatically) match your hardware to your key when you activate it, right?

EDit: * I suppose they might actually have been keeping track of what keys they've sold licenses with, but wouldn't that make for slow registering having to go through the database for every activation?
My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian woman named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

unless you have got a corprate editionof xp pro eventually you wont be able to register a perticular version of windows with the same key you will trigger a predetermined limit I used up mine but it was a real version and I just reinstall windows alot and you phone them and press a button and they unlock it right there you dont even have to tell them much info it is kinda freaky.Which brings me to my next point about microsoft not knowing exactly where you are when you get caught using pirated software You guys are dreaming if you honestly think that they dont know where you are they just dont care YET.they want the big companies that have thousands of employees using pirated software that way they acctually get something. You think microsoft lawyers are going to waste their time on people like us!!!! Man there lawyers fart out like twenty Alienware laptops an Hour. But you you guys are kidding your selves if you think microsoft doesnt know exactly where you are COME ON!!!!! My biggest question is why would you want to turn on automatic updates anyway Just make slipstream cds when a service pack comes out in beetween it doesnt matter.I still us windows with SP1 and I have absolutly no problems with any thing I have a harware firewall and up to date avast and untill I have problems I aint installing SP2 cause I installed it once when it first came out and my computer crashed.Put it this way the more updates you put on the harder it is to keep that pirated xp cause the first thing on the list for every service pack isnt 'browser security' or 'media player vulnarashut the fuckup' you think they really care that its hard for you to get rid of a troj cause you were out playing limey-dick-kazza-bear-humper NO they spend months giggling about vulnarashutthef***up and making it harder for fake windows users and then like three days before the service packs are due they fix like two problems havent you notices that every major release from microsoft hasbeen a gong show that breaks more than it fixes.THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!

Jeebus, man. That's the most mental-looking post I've seen in a while.

    And that takes some doing.
