A chain? You mean a metal bracelet or necklace? Oxidation (exposure to oxygen)turns a metal black, otherwise I have no idea what you are talking about.

well i was wearin it for 3 years and it didnt change colors that badly till summer lol...
Perspiration and oils from your body may have accelerated the process.

Well, silver is a semi-precious metal and exposure to oxygen turns it black. I would imagine that heat accelerates the process. Get some silver polish and it will return to normal.Originally posted by Soul814@5 October 2003 - 05:24

Yes, heat turns it black, this is how you tell if gold is real,
Silver is stable in pure air and water, but tarnishes when exposed to ozone, hydrogen sulphide, or air containing sulphur.
