are SVCD .mpg files always 5 channels or can they be 2.
In VirtualDub when i click file information, it doesn't tell me how many channels it has

ok, does that mean that if i have a home cinema kit, it will only play on 2 speakers?

no...
but it will not have the 'effects' that 5 channel sound support has

It matter who encoded the movie and what they chose to set it at but movies are mostly Dual channel (2) when u have ac3 audio then u might get 5.

the nfo, didn't say how many channels, but it is a telecine, does that make a difference?

No. Just re-ecode the audio if u are planning on encoding the movie
