you can burn it on a normal cdr as data so no need to waist a dvdr
if you want to watch it on a stand alone dvd player then you need to convert it

If its an image file such as a bin/cue it will be fine...

Don't know that anyone has really answered your question. Nero will allow overburn but not that much. You can use an AVI Spliter to cut bits off to reduce the size (search for avi splitter in the software section).

I cannot get a file that big onto 1 cdr, using nero.
I would split it. Remember if you just remove the end credits then it may fit. I use Easy Video Splitter to do this. Other wise just half it.
As for DVD-R, I can get 6 normal length movies onto one. As data for storage / playing on a PC obviously.
If they are slightly larger then 5. Given that they are around 75p each, this works out at 15p per movie.
I can live with that.

Check out muchspl2's sig. I did today and can now load avi's on to CDR's and play through stand alone DVD player. Not sure if this will work for files bigger than 700Mb though, but am trying now so will let you know.
