*theoretically speaking, from my experience in making a LCD hardware temp monitor*

In my opinion, all you would need to do, is take a potentiometer. It has three loops on it, connectors, pots, whatever you want to call them. I would believe that you should be able to hook up your 12V, or 5V line, coming from the Power Supply, hook it into one side pot of the potentiometer, then have the same 5 or 12V line going back out on the left pot, to the fan. The middle pot should be wired to a ground wire, which should be grouneded. I grounded mine by having it feed into the molex ground connector I was using on my Powersupply, but I would imagine it might be a bit trickier if it was a standard 3prong one. Im not the most knowledgable on peoper grounding techniques.

But, if you have any other quesitons, I will answer them to the best of my ability, and im sure others will jump in, so dont hesitate to ask.






I drew a simple picture here of a potentiometer. Its the knob type, much like you have on your stereos. Thats usually what the volume controls are, nothing more than potentiometer, limiting the power. Also, A and B can be switched if you want, its just a matter of which way you will have to turn the knob to do what you want.

well i know an old school way to find out wich way your fans blowing, first with the computer off look at whick ways the fins are tilte, out of the computer or in, then turn the computer on, and stick your finger in, if the fins are sticking out and your finger gets cut up then its blowing in.

EDIT: i understand the whole thing except i dont know where to connect the grounding wire to..... :helpsmile:

You can find potentiometers at Radio shack. You will also want similar AWG wire to connect to either end of the potentiometer, and then to the 12/5V line that you are using, to extent it. Not quite sure what kind of wire the wires are though. 22AWG should do it, and they have spools of that at radio shack too, for like 4 bucks, the potentiometer, should be 1 buck at the most.

Also, for the ground, you can proably just solder the ground straight to the actual ground wire that plugs into the power connector, just pull the wire out of the connector, strip back a bit of wire, sold them togther, heatshrink it, and put it back into the connector.

Also, while your at radioshack, pick up some Split loom/wire loom. I froget what they call it there, but if you know what drainge pipe looks like, its a flexible black tubing, probably several feet of it for only a couple of bucks, it will hold and hide your Motherboard connector, and other wires (like im using it to cover up my USB wires coming from my back plate/card that came with my motherboard)

i have the wires and i can probably find a potentimeter somewhere around my house... and for the ground im still stuck cuz i dunt hav a solder i broke it

u noe wall outlets the third hole in the centre at the bottom cant i just like stick the wire in there and like tape it or sumthin

oh and btw i dont really understand the split loom thing.... so i can hide my wires tht are coming from the back?

Just as long as you know the potentimeter looks similar, servers same purpose, AND can handle atleast a 12V load from the incoming line. Google for pictures of them.

Also, for the split loom thing, its just to cover up wires running around your case that you cant easily hide, like your motherboard 10pin connector one.

Im uploading a pictures of a bit I have, give you an idea, maybe I will give link later to buy it online, if i can find a good picture with it.


EDIT: This is just a small part of it I had on my desk, you probably get 3-4 feet to work with.
