here's the thing: i have some files on my parents comp that i need.....
now they have winXP (as do i)
i know there is some way for us to set it up so i can remotely browse their computer and get the files off........
but how?

Do you have a network between them?
If so, set them both to the same 'workgroup' (if u don't know how then the easiest way is to use the network setup wizard), then right click whaever drive/folder/printer you want to share and click "Sharing" then set it up (give it a name, etc.).
Then to access from the other computer go to 'My Network Places' and click the shared drive.
If you don't have a network you will need a network card for each computer, and either a crossover cable or 2 regular cables and a router or hub (if you have broadband i recomend getting a router to share the connection).

well.......... my parents live on the other side of the country......
i know uploadin the files would be a easy solution, but i have this type of stuff more often, and this would be a good long term solution....... plus i dont know exactly where the files are located (searchin 4 my parents would be hard in that case, since their comp is one big mess)
EDIT: yes that remote desktop is what i want (i think)......... how do we set that up?

Click on start , all programs , accessories , communications , remote desktop your half way there.

Wouldnt something like vnc-4.0-x86_win32 also be a good way to go...
