Vitrification
Vitrification is an alternative to incineration; the process turns hazardous waste into glass. During Vitrification the contaminants are subjected to extremely high temperatures in the melter, the organic compounds are destroyed and the remaining organic elements become part of the glass’s molecular structure. Metal compounds which are hazardous are converted to non-hazardous metal oxides and radioactive elements can’t escape.
