kazaa used to work fine with sp2, for months, now it don't... and tons of pop ups...
Help,
Some rougue shopping guide program installed itself on my machine, or my wife accidentally allowed it to happen, and now my machine is over run with adds ect. I cannot run adaware, the program finds over 300 critical objects, but freezes when I try to remove the objects. Virus scan turned up nothing. Ran hijack and deleted a bunch of fishy stuff, however several listings would not delete, and now kazaa will not open. there must be a link. I am posting here to see if anyone of you'all out there might have some usefull advice for someone in my situation. I'm desperate. Please let me know.

Hey, you already created this thread. Its just been moved to the software forum cause you have more of a spyware/adware problem. I already posted a "solution" on the older thread. You can view it here, http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=88095
Re: kazaa used to work fine with sp2, for months, now it don't... and tons of pop ups
Thanks much! I tried all the suggestions. After installing kazaa lite 2.7 beta 2, and then running the program, i got to a screen that said kmd 2.7 could not be found in the kazaa folder. It instructed me to download a file, and then run the program to install necesarry components, but for the life of me I cannot get it all to work. Do I make sense with what I am saying, and can you tell me how to get the new version to run? Thanks.

So here is what is happening. I can install the program, when I did the nsane version it did not even have me do any of the things with kazaa shield. I get pst the point where I choose a user name, connection speed, ect. and then finishe the installation successfully, but from there every time I open kazaa, a little hour glass appears for a couple seconds and the logo appears in the tool bar, but the buck stops there. The [program never loads. So i am back at square 1. One other oddity. When installting the program at the final step an error mesage appeared that said something to the effect of C:WINDOWS/SYS32/Hosts..something or other.. Host not found. I hit ok and and it says merging host with a little filling scrollbar and then finishes the installation. Hope this is enough info. I really appreciate all your advice. Thanks.

Re: kazaa used to work fine with sp2, for months, now it don't... and tons of pop ups
Am running windows xp pro on a 1.1 ghz, 512 mb ram, 120 gb hd machine. I was told from another forum that I might have something called a peper trojan, because files I try to delete using hijack program, do not delete, even in safe mode. It could be that this is affecting kazaa as well. After installing the program according to the instructions here, it still will not open. I am following some instructions for peper removal at present, and will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for all the help so far.

After getting rid of the peper virus, I am no longer getting any adds and stuff. Internet explorer is completely disabled on this machine, freezes and cannot navigate anywhere, and then tells me it is sorry but it must close. I use firefox anyways. But I still can't get kazaa to work. I am tempted to wipe this machine clean and start over, but I have over 100 gb of info on the hard drive, that I do not want to lose. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
