I've used Azureus for a long time. If ur system can handle the memory drain, I think its an excellent program.

Azureus makes faster connections than utorrent, so your download speed increases to optimum faster.. but in the end they are both about the same speed.

UTorrent all the way. Small, fast and simple. I tried Azureus and while I liked all the plug-in options it just didn't suit me :) I was a little worried when I read about them selling out to anit p2p group Pearfactor. But am satisfied with their explenation ( http://www.utorrent.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7038 ) 4 now and will continue to use it. It's a great client. Connects to peers fast and I consistantly get high download speeds. Only drawback no UDP support...but so what.

I have to agree with µTorrent, I was a Azureus fanatic, though I couldn't cope with the resource hogging and memory leaks. µTorrent is almost exactly the same functionality and layout wise, though is C++ based rather than Java, so it is extremely light, and resource friendly.

Just by you saying that you use bitspirit shows that you are no good to the bit torrent community.Its the biggest cheat of a client out there.The damn thing actually has an option that you can turn on or off so it either does or doesnt report your ratio.Bunch of crap if you ask me.Utorrent all the way peace out.

Speeds r the same. How fast you download depends on a number of factors but mainly the seeders your connected to. Your client makes no difference to download / upload speeds. But as far as the program goes, UTorrent is faster because it uses less resources and leaves a smaller footprint :D

Azureus has plugins. Until uTorrent does it can stay where it is, off my computer :)

My favourite is Stuffer, which I use to block all clients except uTorrent and Azureus (current and last 2 versions).

i think only allowing those 2 clients is a bad idea
but i do think having the option to ban certain clients is a good idea
or the author writing in some sort of code that when u check a box saying something like "ban leeching/cheating clients", it will ban the clients known to cheat and leech.

µtorrent currently has no banning facilities at all, either for banning clients or peers. the author thinks it would be abused, and be bad for the swarm, and bittorrent in general.

i think it would be a good idea, as it would force the users of these clients to get a better client, as they wouldnt be able to connect to anyone. or the authors of these clients would fix their crap, and make it fairer.

I prefer utorrent when im downloading torrents but use Azureus when I upload. I can kick and ban users who aren't sharing and I use the stuffer plugin to auto kick users with bad clients.

No-one with BitComet, Bitlord etc can connect to me.

the Which bittorrent client do you use? poll still leans heavily towards azureus. however, it started back in feb 2005, and i think utorrent has come a very long way in that time. then i look at seeds/peers im connected to, on average its about 60/40 to utorrent, and moving more and more towards utorrent all the time.

i think if that poll was restarted then utorrent would win by a mile.

Just changed from Azureus to utorrent to try it out.
Very easy to set up and it works just as well.
Don't know if I'm missing something, but I can't see what in ways it's better than Azureus though.

I found Azureus hasn't quite got the selective downloading right, it loses pieces that overlaps files with "Do not download". And if the torrent has more than a few hundreds of files in it, eventually it will give you "Likely faulty socket selector" error that'll stop your data transfer until you restart Az. It will start up in safe-socket-mode, but it does not resolve the problem, it'll happen again and again.

So if I want to do selective downloading, I go with µTorrent, if I have the luxury to always dl/ul the full torrent, I'd prefer Azureus for it's flexibility.

Azureus has plugins and until uTorrent does the same it will always be inferior. Stuffer for blocking bad clients is my favourite but there are dozens that I use.

As for resource hog, I have no issues running on a P2 550 with 768mb ram (just a shitbox I made out of spare parts).

For features you can't beat Azureus.

I switched from Azureus to uTorrent for this reason and I was pleasantly suprised. I do have a problem though that nobody has mentioned. (this happened after my XP Pro laptop died and went to the Home Edition, otherwise it's pretty much the same, just a little upgrade) My computer slows way down because of uTorrent. I get a Disc Overloaded 100% notification on the bottom middle section. The FAQ says to change the Advanced settings and I've done that but I still get the disc overload. My question is: What are the best settings when you're downloading/uploading about 50 torrents at a top speed around 150k?

I think we're talking semantics on the Azureus resources; it's the Java thing that officially shows up as hogging memory, so that's what your task manager will reflect. I switched to uTorrent last year, and ain't looked back; admittedly, I don't have too many "advanced" requirements, but damn.

And people who say "a good system should be able to handle . . ." are missing the point IMO. Should ain't got nuthin' to do with it. And practically speaking, if you run Azureus, but also run (an untweaked) Firefox and something like Photoshop, you're maxing out a 512 MB chip, and encroaching on the same on a GB of RAM. That's unacceptable.

Photoshop earns its monopolization of resources; Azureus (per Java) does not.

I tried Bitcomet, Azu, uTorrent, ABC, BitTornado etc,and currently I'm using and sticking to uTorrent. Its light and easy to use. Does the job well, as well as having protocol encryption :)

Of course your computer is gonna slow down when you are doing that it doesnt matter what client you use.

god 50 torrents at a time i find it hard to find 5 things that i want to download, no wonder yr comp is slow, all i can say is try downloading less at a time if yr only 150k download speed 5 to 7 will do mate that should max it out :)

Azureus never had a problem with it 1-2% cpu usage and 20-60 mbs of memory is not that bad....

Yes they are both good speed wise but if you like things that dont use much resources then i would stick with Utorrent.Also make sure you got to options,preferences,network and enable protocol encryption it will help you out and help out the whole community as well.

i've been using azureus for 2 years when utorrent came along...

my first thoughts: why did it take so long for such a fine client to show up.
i was thinking azureus was the best out there, but no, its not even in the same league as utorrent.

first of all, gosh... 20-30% of cpu constantly? wtf? who really needs java?
okay, its got alot of features and stuff, but bear in mind that this is a "passive" program, ppl use the pc while running az, and have no need for their ressources to be wasted in java.

utorrent is slim, really fast file rechecking, no java therefore no ressource burden, and does an overall nice job. i admit, it's not perfect and lacks some of the features azureus has, but it's much newer than az and already extremely popular.

azureus has the safepeer plugin which owns utorrents ipfilter. and wasted downloads no such thing

once i downloaded final destination 3 and i saw that the same film, the same torrent was uploaded to more than 4 private trackers. i tried to seed them in all that trackers, but there was a difference in the .nfo files.
i tried to seed them with utorrent, i failed, but azureus can select the downloaded file's location for every file in the torrent seperately.
if you have a powerful pc, and interested in the configurations, you should use azureus.
if you like tiny but really good client u should use utorrent.

I've used to be ABC when I started using bittorrent. Then Azureus came with a lot of stuff like downloading some parts of torrent files, WEBUI, etc. The only problem was that when you let it run for a long time it ate a lot of memory. I've stayed with Azureus for a long time but then came utorrent with a tiny program doing all the same stuff Azureus did. I've switched back and forth between the two programs for a while until I finally decided for utorrent. There is nothing to complain about it: small, efficient, lots of stuff (I don't care if they ripped it off Azureus or not) and no memory bloat.

iwent from bitornado to utorrent and havent looked back,utorrrent uses a lot less memory and if ur gonna seed a torrent from another tracker it checks the data a load faster than any other client

I use utorrent. I have had over 100 torrents seeding on my pc with very little resources being used. I remember older clients like the original bittorant client years ago and not being able to even load an empty notepad file. God how much things have evolved ;)

More private trackers start banning Az...
Even if I have 2 GB RAM, my choice is µTorrent.
Though I do like Azureus GUI, and the possibility to ban individual IP's, which you can't in µTorrent.

You still have the option to see them in Utorrent. Just block them in peerguardian or any similiar firewall and you should be all set. Although it would be nice if they added this option within utorrent itself in the future. Maybe if enough people request for this function to be added it will appear in their newer releases.

nah, azureus seems without a doubt the most comfortable for me, despite its resource hogging downfalls, its a beautiful piece of file-sharing software. Always seems faster then utorrent to me

Personally I never have speed issues. I max my 100mbit line with Utorrent without even trying.

Just trying Uttorent 1.6 this weekend seems very fast , I never cared for Azureus The learning curve seems awful high tho ,still trying to figure how to upload files .

for me they are both good, the only downside as mentioned above is the "JAVA" it greatly increases azureus's load on the computer, especially if left on for a long time

I'd have to say Azureus. I think it probably has too many features (half of which I don't even understand), but it runs on Linux and OSX and it's open source and is very stable.

you see... i simply just get better speeds with Azureus, im too set in my ways with it... and the memory hogging doesnt really bother me too much.

i have used uTorrent... it was good for a few days... i was considering uninstalling Az... then all of a sudden it cant connect to any seeds... no trackers were connecting properly (trust me i tryed loads) and just nothing even openoffice... so back to Az for me... maybe i'll give uTorrent another go but Az is allway's gona be there just because it never fails on me :-)

and it has a very usefull help section and a good forum section
tryed bitcomet not bad but most sites wont except it
azureus tryed it once didnt like it to much work
so i say utorren all the way
just like to add this when you are downloading in 300kbs to 400kbs
ithink it is prity fast never was able to that with bitcomet

I was about to try out Azureus after reading about it on another thread. I've only ever used uTorrent, which I like yet I have nothing to compare it to. After reading this thread me thinks I'll just stick with uTorrent. It seems to do the trick.

uTorrent is way better than other clients i've used (like bitlord or azareus) but it has some problems with Avast antivirus and it's P2P Shield. But i still use it :p

uTorrent for me - it's small and clean. Azureus seems a bit too bloated. I use it in Linux though, since you need to run uTorrent through Wine.
