i have a laptop that only has a floppy drive. is there a way i could connect the laptop to the pc to install new windows.
if the both have network cards u can cnnect them directly using a crossover cable. im not sure how to access the networkf rom dos though to start the setup.
When you say it shows a black screen, do you mean it never shows anything? If so then its either not getting to the POST screen (where it shows your processor and ram and video card) or the screen is knackered. Reinstalling windows won't help

You can use Direct Cable Connection or Laplink cable.
It's a cable that goes between the two Parallel and/or serial ports of both computers in order to link them together.
It's been a very long time since I did this so I don't remember the details. I can remember that you can transfer the 'cab' files from the Windows CD over to the harddisk of the laptop and launch the install from there.

There are also some that look like this: http://www.elexp.com/computer/45lcs.gif
I don't know why there are some that have connectors for the serial as well as the parallel ones. The one I have is like the top image without the serial connectors. That type works for me.

If the fact that laptop doesn't startup correctly is caused by a faulty Windows installation or a non existant one then yes. Installing windows may be the solution.
Perhaps you could give me some more information. What kind of laptop is it? Make/Model? What harddisk capacity, CPU speed and how much RAM?
But as you can see, this could be a long process to resolve in a forum like this one.
It will require a lot of back and forth communication. So far I see you ask a question and if you don't have the complete solution all given to you in a package you then give up and don't even answer back.
Maybe you need to describe what you mean by: "even though the laptop dows not startup correctly"

I agree. You need to get someone to do it for you.

can't be done. a Windows 98/2000/XP cd contains about 400 floppies worth of data.
if your laptop is so old that it doesn't have a CD-Rom, i'd suspect that it's not fast enough to use Windows 98... or its hard drive is too small... or both...

I've used a BAFO cable for a year now to transfer files from my desktop to my laptop and it works perfectly. The best thing about it is that on either the computers is a Explorer type window showing the folders and files of both computer at the same time, one window above the other.
The BAFO cable costs less then $30.00 at a place like Fry's.
Go to the BAFO web site to see what it is.
Mine is the BF100.
