try to get one thats stable to 1 ohm or better, my 10.0 is 1/4 ohm stable
25x2@4ohms or 1000x1@1ohm lower the ohm, raise the power, but the amp has to be able to handle it

i'd rather have 2x12" subs than 2x15"
depending on your taste in music, 15's might not be able to respond quickly enough

good point 3rd, some audiophiles even stick with 8's and 10's, but thats too small for my taste, and fosgate still makes pretty solid amps king
you can check em out HERE (http://www.rockfordcorp.com)

well normally these are special subs, they don't even make them any more
and the spl170 are not made by hand like the 160's
among other things it has a 2 1/2 inch peek to peek excursion

If your lookin for good quality amps, that aren't as expensive as the others. Look for Pheonix Gold, Fantastic amps for the price range. Rockfor, Audiobahn, and JL are the best brands in the business.JL=clarity, Audiobahn=in between, and Rockford=bass. It just depends on what your lookin for. If Price isn't an a problem and you want a big amp. JBL makes a 5,000watt rms amp, and Audiobahn does too. Not sure what the prise is on the JBL, but the audiobahn is runnin anywhere from $1,600 to $4,500. As far as I've seen though, this amp is top of the line it is a stand alone stereo system. deck, kit, subs, and the amp. It has just about anything you would want of the top. I have my license to deal audio equipment and would be an authorized Audiobahn dealer, just not everybody is lucky enough to have a store. I just use it to get what I want and my friends want. If your like me and money is an issue look into the pheonix gold amps.

do they still make the amp that comes with a special alternator?
also thought they engrave your name or car club on it
I remember it costing over 20 grand, hella expensive.

sweet, but then I'd never be able to listen to xm with all that loaded
I have a friend who has a Durango full of amps and speakers-before he assembled it he asked me what kind of subs he should get-I told him I always preferred Cerwin-Vega.
He now has 2-18", 2-15", and 2-12" (for the "transient response"), all "Strokers".
Something like 6000w of dedicated bridged amplification, just for the subs.
I have NEVER heard SPL like that; I would have though it impossible.
Un-f**king real.

Probably the best automotive sound system would be a Ford 427 side-oiler with 4 dual throat Webers and side pipes...

just for everyone the world recored is 174 db
in order to gain 3db's you need to double the power
you can find out on paper(theoretically) how loud it should be
say a speaker sensitivity is 100 @1watt @1meter
2 watts =103
4 watts =106
8 watts =109
16 watts 112
32 watts 115
64 watts 118 as you can see it adds up quick,
the regulated db meter (for shows=what counts) always seem low compared to people I know with the same equipment

You know your stuff.
I used to custom-build speakers, but I got thumped on the melon (true story) and literally lost my ability to do the higher math associated with the activity.
Now they use computors, so I guess it's no great loss, huh?
I remember having tons of drivers, face-plates and cabinets, experimenting all the bloody time-God, the hours I put in to that stuff.
Memories (such as they are)

A guy from here in Halifax has a Suzuki swift with two 15" Juggernaut subs and 2 Rockford Fosgate BD1500 amps built into a wall where the back seat used to be and I saw him hit 157.?? a couple of years ago at a show.He was the highest in the Maritime provinces that year and was supposed to redoe everything to go for a Canadian record but I don't think he ever did as I haven't gotten to any shows this year.
