Holy shit, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is fantastic. Why the fuck did I never play this game before? I think it's my new favorite mario game. Excellent stages, and really quirky enemies that I've never seen in any other game of the series.

I'm onto Zelda II right now(going to stick with the 8-bit goodness for a while). Why exactly was this game not more well received? I know it's different from the rest of the series, with the side scrolling and rpg'ness and all. Not to mention the difficulty. But it's fucking fantastic. In order; I can't imagine how the full multiplayer for this game will be, but currently I'm actually enjoying playing/learning which is surprising considering it sounds like a very alien concept for video games; classic great feel to it - the same classic great feel that has been hammered and raped for a couple of years by lazy unimaginative developers - that falls back on impressive writing to save itself from obsolescence; I have never before enjoyed a version 2.0 game as much as this one, granted I feel like I was ripped off my money for version 1.0 which feels like a beta for these new mechanics, but the game really reinvented itself as an incredibly fun grinder; starting in a few hours, heard a lot of good and bad about the little imagination that went into this game, hoping it interests me.

EDIT: Forgot to list Dwarf Fortress. Drop everything you're doing, reader. Start playing this game. Gather a couple of friends and stage a flash mob in the middle of a civil war. Start a meth house and put a hospital tag on the outside, and offer a free info seminar for cooking meth. Literally. You can do anything you want with this beautiful game.

Developers are even bigger twats. Look at the ego/publicity stunts Notch carries out for an average-skill coder, look at the audacity of Bioware on Mass Effect's outlash opting for a paid future DLC - almost as bad the concept of a feature movie explaining the ending of LOST, and the fact that thematic productions like the Sherlock Holmes/Leisure Suit Larry/ShadowRun are all referring to the public funding sector, because as opposed to spending money on reboots that use today's potential to make something better, the world needs a God of War IV in some people's opinions.

The 3DS is being brushed aside without even exploring the potential of street pass (think setting up a passive castle defense in a Super Smash Brothers retro party-based turn-based RPG dungeon crawler for Zelda/Peach as the prize in each castle), PC/PSV being ousted for the X360/PS3 (a game like Dyad definitely belongs on the PSVita and a game like Journey belongs more in a HTPC setup that inside a PS3), Diablo III auction house modelling real-world app store success, old classics like Wizards of the Coast refusing to move away from their stupid magazine-style comic store subscription strategies and taking an entire franchise down... the list could go on.

Developers like to be seen as artists, but rarely put the required work forth. They just model their cashflow like artists, where proven developers in the past 5 years are more likely to get to market with something they think is contextually relevant.

EDIT: But the thing that gets on my nerves the most is the snack-size of games nowadays. Less than 10 years ago campaigns were expected to be 40-80 hours long by the gaming community, and publishers routinely had challenges to those who can beat that campaign in time-attack mode against an in-house team member or the world (it happened with the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater which I enjoyed being part of a lot). Today every time I read the time-to-credit-screen rating it's 4-6 hours for games that don't force second/third play-throughs.

Strange game ,a ton of atmosphere and really gives you the feeling of living in "that" world but the play mechanics are weird and very much on a rail. Unless you are a Walking Dead fanatic I would guess that waiting for all the chapters to be released and getting the "full" game would probably be the best idea.

Just finished up Infinite. The game was the shiznit. Definitely lived up to the reviews. The ending could have been a little more, but the gameplay, story, and graphics were all top notch. Definitely a labor of love from the devs.

Next I'm gonna revisit Dark Siders. I started this a while ago but got side tracked by another game.
