The nose is fine. The back on the other hand is still a work in progress. The sciatica is basically gone but if bend too much I get really bad flashes of pain around where I injured the disc which still really limits what I can do. Seems to steadily be getting better but it's just taking forever. Rehabing the fuck out of it to try and speed it along.

In other news I got a parcel today. The door buzzer rang, I answered it and a strong Polish accent said there was a parcel, I told him to leave it inside by the door and buzzed him in. He then buzzed back to confirm there was a parcel, I told him I knew about the parcel from our earlier conversation and buzzed him in to leave it inside by the door. He then buzzed again so I buzzed back then all this stopped. I had a shower, got dressed and went downstairs to find no parcel, I opened the front door and the parcel was sat outside. I said useless cunt out loud to myself and brought it back upstairs, inside the box was another box and inside that box was a gift hamper thing from work for "all the hard work". This is a fucking outrage because they fucked us all on review scores this year and this shitty hamper might as well have been petrol station flowers.

The hamper has various fancy looking items in it, some chocolate bars with salted caramel on them (all the rage with homosexuals I'm told), some salted caramel popcorn, some posh looking peanuts and a bottle of nonalcoholic apple and elder flower fizzy drink. This drink tasted like soap and I wish none of this happened it just wasn't worth the effort.

Drugs or not, you had to be talented to be a programmer back then, there was no two ways about it. These systems had so little resources that literally every byte mattered; note how the Commodore 64 can't scroll the beginning of the level and keep playing the background music in real time.

I do remember those special flight sim joysticks with lots of triggers, buttons and sliders... and steering wheels, gear handles and pedals for racing games. I had an A4Tech brand gamepad myself, plugged to the yellow game port. Wonder how many people know what that is these days :)

I was this close to beating Tunnel B1, but the last mission was impossible. You had to destroy this helicopter to exit the level but it was impossible to hit!

"Descent" I remember fondly, but "Tunnel B1" I have no recollection of. Bet it was great though! :)

I dislike flight sims now. I have neither the eyesight or hand equilibrium (shakes) for them. "Comanche" was the last. :(

FPS's... were barely okay on "Easy" mode until a very young grandson kicked the shite out of me on "Call of Duty".

By the way, those NFOs I posted yesterday came from a CD that I burned about 30 years ago. With a bit of care I guess that storage medium does keep for a while..

I still have all my most important CD-Rs (and floppies) and take good care of them, yet I took the time to make raw images of everything as soon as I got enough disk space. Even with good safekeeping measures and all, I've had several cases of media becoming partially or completely unreadable, and that's not a gamble I like to take with my data.

There were a lot of memory managers promising magic... same with disk caching programs. I cheated a little and looked some names up; based on this (https://www.pcworld.com/article/125772/worst_products_ever.html?page=2) mention it seems SoftRAM may be the one you're referring to after all.

Keeping data on upper memory blocks was not itself a scam, but it didn't do miracles either, and had to be fine-tuned by hand in any case. Even Microsoft's own MEMMAKER couldn't do a good job.

Well, I just accidentally deleted 10 GB of files; apparently without a chance of recovery (does anyone have a recommendation for a proven undelete program? I have yet to find one)...

I too am double bored, work made me take two weeks off cos I hadn't taken anything and two in a row is a requirement in my sector ...or so I'm told :eyebrows: t'misses has no time off and has claimed the front room as an office and so I'm banished to the spare room where my various electronic devices live. I've also gotten heavily into those cold coffees wot come in small box form, Arctic Iced Coffee is the preferred choice. Well, Plex made some change to their media scanners and actually require files to be named with S01E01 rather then 101, etc as part of the file name in order to be recognized and matched. And apparently any time you make a change in a folder (like adding a file), it affects all content in that folder, even if it was previously recognized and matched.

Can anyone recommend a program to batch rename files?

The same most of the well known Up-Loaders of NZB's always name it "S01E01" etc.. The problem with that now is the obfuscation!!, and if you don't set up your downloader program to extract and rename you have to change all of them...

It would be great if someone knows of a program that does do it, but the norm for me is always to manually Copy/Cut/Paste :idunno:

The problem is not the downloading/renaming thing. The problem is that Plex seems to have changed a process when pulling in metadata for your media. The official naming convention for TV shows was always S01E01, S01E02, etc. but it turned out that they also supported naming conventions like 101, 102, etc. Well, that seems to have gone the way of the dodo last weekend; I updated my Plex server software and all of a sudden file 101 does not show up as "Episode 1" in Plex but rather as "Episode 101". Of course there usually is no episode 101, so Plex can't match the episode and does not pull in any metadata for that episode.

Existing files and matches are not affected, but every time you make a change to a folder, like adding files or replacing files, it scans the whole folder and rematches it (or tries to). So yesterday I replaced season 1 of MacGyver with the new remastered version, and even though it was already in my Plex library, it defaulted to "episode 101", etc again. Same way with Tehran -- the first four episodes were in my library, but because just added the latest two episodes the matadata for all six got screwed up. So this renaming tool will be a lot faster and convenient than manually changing all file names to the S01E01 format.

File descriptions are supported, and I'm sure it has a plugin for the other stuff... it has a plugin for nearly everything, actually. However, that's not the program's defining feature, it's a file manager first and foremost. I've been using it since before it was renamed and am very pleased with it.

Do you rename every file to be the same in the season?? No matter how the NZB poster has it??

I assume the Metadata is picked up by it's file name right?? So if they are all the same and you are just changing the Season or Episode number?? Plex doesn't recognize that?? And able to pull down all the info etc?? I understand your problem how it is named but is it just the number or other issues Plex has a conflict with??

If it's a TV show, I rename every file to adhere to the format "show_name.season&episode.episode_title" -- in reality the first part is not really needed and the last part is just for me/my friends as Plex does not look at anything beyond the season/episode number. And I say the first part is not needed because you can name it "xyz" and then, when Plex in unable to match it, do a manual matching. You throw the files into a folder, tell Plex what that folder refers to, and all future files you throw into that folder will be treated like they are part of the same show. The only relevant part that is needed is the S01E01, S01E02, etc part.

So create a folder called "Magnum PI" and throw Magnum.S01E01.mkv and Magnum.S01E02.mkv into it. Plex will most likely match it with the show from the 80s and when you add a file Magnum.S01E03.mkv to it, it will automatically pull the metadata for its database for that episode.

Let's say this is, in fact the reboot. Then you have two options: (1) you call the folder "Magnum PI (2018)" and Plex will automatically match it, or (2) you manually fix the match by specifying the year in the match/search criteria. Either way, Plex knows what data to pull in for any file you add to that folder afterwards.

And yes, while I have not done that, I believe if you threw in a file "Mag.S01E04.mkv" or "XYZ.S01E05.mkv" they would still be correctly identified as "Magnum, Season 1, Episode 4 and 5" because you previously matched the folder that those files are in.

Again, my current problem arose because up to this point, Plex also recognized 101, 102 or 103 as substitute for S01E01, S01E02 and S01E03, which it now apparently no longer does. if I had followed recommended guidelines from the beginning, this would not be an issue, but you know what a rebel I am . ;)

Movie titles should be formatted "movie-name.release_year.mkv" and Plex does the rest. Again, if for some reason a correct match can't be found, you can manually fix it and Plex will pull in all related metadata at that point. And the scanners are good enough that if the movie name is unique, you don't even need the year. So whether the file is named "waterworld.mkv" or "waterworld.1995.mkv" should still result in the same match. Or, if you want to make a point and are willing to invest one more step of manual labor, you could also name the file "shitmovie_with_Kevin_Costner.boring-as-hell.mkv" as long as you manually tell Plex that it should match it with "Waterworld (1995)" afterwards. Either way, Plex will pull in the graphics, descriptions and other movie-related data for you.

Not to keep beating a dead horse, but the only manual work is renaming the file sjhieh1hjds64hjh.mkv that you just downloaded to Riviera.S03E01.WEBRip.720p-IdeaFilm.mkv and copying the file to a folder in your Plex library.

Oh, and in this case, since it's dual audio, you may want to set the right audio track in Plex afterwards, but that is really it.

I don't care about the charging part, but I need to be able to connect the iPad to my PC so I can sync it with iTunes. Otherwise no data backup if the thing ever crashes and no way to get music, etc onto the iPad.

Turns out it was the adapter. Ended up buying a cable with a USB-C plug and a regular USB plug on the ends, and all my problems went away... of course the port is not charging the device, but that was not my ultimate goal. I just wanted to be able to connect to iTunes so I can backup/restore my data and sync my music.

Ackshually, Apple stuff is pretty nice. macOS is leaps and bounds cleaner than Windows for more things than I can name. Windows continues to feel so clunky and... boxy. Stale and old. Utilitarian even. I had a mid-2015 MacBook Pro and just decided to buy the new M1 MacBook Air and it is freakishly fast. It's also a nice bonus how MacBooks hold their value. I sold that Mid-2015, almost 6 year old laptop for $800!

Whenever I get a new computer or laptop there are subtle changes in speed increases but they aren't necessarily identifiable improvements, rather the whole machine just feels a bit faster and fresh in general. Not with the new M1 tho. Apps open instantaneously. It's quite impressive. So these days I have my own MacBook Air, a MacBook Pro which is work issued, and a nice Windows rig that at this point, is used exclusively for long term file storage and games. You just can't beat the MacBook imo for an awesome everyday user experience.

I don't think I'm anywhere close to getting off the Windows teat completely tho. That utilitarian aspect is great. It's definitely cheaper to have a Windows machine nearby for file storage and such.

As I said, the OS is good. It's basically what Linux would be if there'd been one Linux instead of a billion distros, and it'd had similar amounts of manpower behind it (of course, the fact Apple also makes their own hardware helps a lot). And the Aqua theme, it makes you want to lick your screen :P
