Not an American here, but i have property there :-D so i got at least SOME skin in the game. Now, from an outside perspective i cannot understand how anyone sane votes for Trump albeit my US friends DO have good arguments (tax cut, bringing back jobs etc.). Personally i'd like a "socialist" country and i am living in one. Having affordable health care, state issued unemployment and sick leave, knowing how much my pension is etc. I think, most americans confuse socialist with communist. I am glad that i can go to a doctor if i have an issue and not take on another mortgage if i need my wisdom teeth removed. I am also glad, that noone is gambling in the stock market with my pension. It is guaranteed by the state and i don't need to work until i am dropping dead just because i couldn't pay anything into my 401K. And i don't understand why Americans are so against those things. But i can enjoy both sides :-) Visit the US *and* having peace of mind that i won't end up on the stret just because i couldn't afford my medical bills.

The questions get progressively harder. Not an American here, but i have property there :-D so i got at least SOME skin in the game. Now, from an outside perspective i cannot understand how anyone sane votes for Trump albeit my US friends DO have good arguments (tax cut, bringing back jobs etc.). Personally i'd like a "socialist" country and i am living in one. Having affordable health care, state issued unemployment and sick leave, knowing how much my pension is etc. I think, most americans confuse socialist with communist. I am glad that i can go to a doctor if i have an issue and not take on another mortgage if i need my wisdom teeth removed. I am also glad, that noone is gambling in the stock market with my pension. It is guaranteed by the state and i don't need to work until i am dropping dead just because i couldn't pay anything into my 401K. And i don't understand why Americans are so against those things. But i can enjoy both sides :-) Visit the US *and* having peace of mind that i won't end up on the stret just because i couldn't afford my medical bills.

As for increasing unemployment, there is an argument made by some smart economists that the increased purchasing power would offset that. Poor people spend , rich people save. True, is it not? Also wage increases haven't historically added much to inflation. Maybe then increase wages less than to $15/hr and then make any further increases tied to inflation. Then it can't be the cause of inflation, merely the response.
You can argue that what amounts to for some workers a hundred percent wage increase is too much too fast for employers but it's hard to make a case for how paying a salary that at $7 and something an hour which is about $10k under the poverty line, that is good for the economy either. Anyay, if you're running a business that can't afford to pay your employees a livable wage, I think the problem might lie not with the employees.
