Recently i unistalled an old k-lite codec pack i had and installed the new mega codec pack, everything has gone downhill from there.

Most files cannot be played in Wmp/clasic/winamp but they will open with divx player (which came with the codec pack). Usually the file freezes when trying to play it in other program, sometimes it plays with the only imformation being the time, but not picture and random squecking sounds.

Another thing that may help to describe my problem is that when i used to view movie files in a folder as thumbnails there was a picture of the first frame, now there isnt.

Most of the files that dont work are ones ive saved in an avi format from a dv cam.

Thanks for any help.

Make sure you have the newest version of the codec pack: version 1.12

Do this:
Start Menu > Run > type: regsvr32 quartz.dll

With this .reg file you can restore avi thumbnails:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.avi\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.avi\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
