Speed Test Result
dslreports.com speed test 2006-11-16 15:41:26 EST:
9845 / 367 (Kbps)
(1201.8 / 44.8 KB/sec)
is this odd? I haven't seen any other speeds with this big of a difference up/down or do I just suck at conversions?
I have...on the speed test I made, exactly where you did... it's probably busy on their servers..or congestion on the internet or you might have to try their "optimisation tool " DR. TCP http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
or

I'm really surprised at the low average speed here ???
I mean, I know you can get a 60 Mbps flat + telephone flat + TV connection for 20 € in France, and a 1 Gbps flat connection for 30 $ in Japan, so where are the people with the fast connections ?
P.S.
To correct some statements here :
ADSL max : 8/1 Mbps
ADSL2+ max : 24/1 Mbps
VDSL2 max : 250 Mbps (D+U)
fiber : as much as they give you (current record is 107 Gbps over a single fiber over a 160 km distance)

Fast Ethernet (100Mbps) here.
Also, yeah. DrBeerMan is right, broadband encompases anything over 128KBps down.
Actually, in the original Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network or B-ISDN definition, broadband was defined as > 2Mbps. Of course, nowadays it's used more loosely and could mean anything really. :)
now? some crappy 1mb cable.... but thats what I get for relocation to the outskirts of Prague.
Before: my college's T1 line, wow. Those were the days, especially in the era of napsters music and imesh's movies, it was heaven.
Well, if you now have 1Mbps and before 1.544 Mbps (T1), the difference can't be that big? Furthermore if your college was also in Prague it could not have T1 as T-carrier connections are only used in US and Japan. Europe uses the E-carrier.

I have a 2.0 megabits per second down line which makes it somewhere between a T1 and whatever fits between that and T3, it's called an ADSL 2+ connection here which comes in 1.0 1.2 1.5 2.0 2.4 variants here in Holland and i pay about $30 a month but they are going to start with VDSL this year and offer a 52 Mbit/s download/upload that would mean a whole DVD down in 10 min's i'm really looking forward to that.

Hello,
I don't know if I'm in the right spot to post a comment and maybe get a reply to someone. But about a week ago I started downloading some things off Tophos. I got the sight from a friend of mine.I liked the sight but after about 5 days I got somewhat of a rude message telling me I was a leech. I resent that remark....I know about sharing, I had my setting on "seeder' and set my upload speed at around 900kbs per sec for anyone who wanted the upload from what I was downloading. But all of a sudden I was cut off from the web sight by the "Terminator" telling me I was a leech. Well, like I said, I am new at downloading on Torrents and I thought I was doing it the right way. I tried to get back on the sight to talk to them but I got a message calling me a "dumbass".
Well, these people could use some training in the way they conduct themselves as mature adults. I'm a senior citizen and I certainly wasn't trying to upset anyone and would gladly share any uploads with anyone...I'm just new at this and not sure what I was doing wrong.
Respectfully submitted,
Jestrobel

Comcast Cable
With the new speed increase in our area, I've seen my download speed reach 1Mb/s and I've seen my upload speed go up to at least 130 KB/s. Not too shabby.

Adsl - 8mbit down, 448kbit up. Pretty good out side of peak hours, although my ISP sucks and during peak I tend to get around 40kb/s downstream. :(
