8Mbps down and 1Mbps up, quite average in my country - or actually maybe bit below average dl-speed wise (24Mbps seems to be trend here).
I'm fine with it, I buffer with seedbox every now and then on sites where it's necessary or donate a little and "survive" fine.

10mbps which sounds great untill you hear its with virgin, when its running its great then they do something called bandwidth shaping, which drops the speed to 1/5 the speed for 5 hrs.
This works in 2 tiers,10am till 3pm then 4pm till 9pm, this is how it works
if you d/l 3gig in the morning (10am till 4pm)you get punished for 5 hrs, then if you d/l 1.5 gig in the evening(4pm till 9pm) you get punished for a further 5 hrs.
Worst of all you still have to pay full price for this service, they do not shape your monthly subscription because they can't provide a full working 10 meg connection.
WELCOME TO RIP OFF BRITAIN-If it looks like a turd, and it smells like a turd, most likely its a british broAdband provider.
See here for further details, just in case you don't believe what you are reading. http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html

Cable here, 12Mbps down/1 Mbps up.....so real world speed is 1450-1500KB/s down and 119-120 KB/s up. Not too bad, but sadly FiOS will never be in my town, and neither will Google's new 1Gbps network. I guess I could upgrade to the highest my ISP offers....20Mbps down and 2Mbps up.

I don't know really. People make stupid decisions when they're currently broke, they get like few seconds time to choose (the annoying salesguy made the offer on the phone) and they have to commit to longer periods of time in order to get stuff cheap.
Plus the fact that due to my old ass laptop not supporting DVI/HDMI, I have to stick to SD. And did I also mention attending to the mandatory military service in July? meh. :D
