• EA Pulls Crysis 2 From Steam, Now Exclusive to Origin, BF3 to follow?

It begins. Forging way ahead with their plans to ingratiate themselves with the new level of emergent digital distribution Steam has monopolised for years now, EA’s newly-rebadged Origin Store has struck its first telling blow. The game in question: Crysis 2. EA have since confirmed that it can now only be purchased online exclusively at Origin, and in the case of Australian gamers, doing so will set us back a whopping $79. Thanks to Snootle for this info, but no thanks to inflated software prices.

Thrifty internet buyers can still pick the game up for a little less at places likeDirect2Drive, but as Snootle mentioned in his news alert, this is very likely to change very soon give how aggressively EA are approaching the establishment of their online portal. By the time their hottest property – that being Battlefield 3, you know, the game we all want quite badly – rolls around for its October 25th release, don’t expect to be able to pick it up online anywhere but Origin for a premium. The red carpet of future commerce has been unfurled to meet its arrival, and we don’t get to walk on it. We just get to pay for it.

I've actually spent money on steam for a game. However, none of my money will ever meet an EA account, this is one of several reasons.

i know it, this is going to happen. Steam was ignoring the players needs & was on path of monopoly.

Hey! Isn't EA the game developer that refused to release games without securom even though it was a pain to customers but not pirates? And isn't it EA that wanted to release all their games with a limited number of installs? And isn't it me who will not fall for their greedy crap this time as well?

Yes to all, and it's weird how I look at a game developer before considering a game nowadays. That's something I never did when I was younger, but the bullshit they've been pulling recently begs the consumer to pay attention. EA has to bring a lot of interest in a game before I would even consider to grab a pirated copy (let alone pay for it), like hell I'd become a member of yet another site just to get one of their games. That's sort of the point with Steam (and others), centralized store that cuts through the bullshit.
