BitTorent Inc. has released a new version of uTorrent that adds an impressive number of new features and options that complement the simple, low memory intensive, BitTorrent client.

“µTorrent’s popularity lies in its simplicity and power,” said Jordy Berson, µTorrent’s director of product management at BitTorrent Inc., in a press release. “As a result, we’re very selective in the features and apps we add, focusing on maintaining the lightness and speed our community expects.”
The new features include streaming, remote access, and torrent ratings and comments.

With the streaming option users can take advantage of progressive downloads and watch or listen to a file before it’s compeleted downloading.
It offers an updated remote access feature that allows users to control their downloads on the go via uTorrent’s Android app or the standard Web UI.

There’s also a new ratings and comments feature for torrents that harvests the “collective wisdom” of the BitTorrent community to ensure downloads are safe, secure, and of the quality promised.

The new drag-and-drop sending box makes it even easier to share content with friends or family.

BitTorrent Inc. also says there’s a new uChat app available in the App Studio, but it’s been “temporarily removed” for a “quick bug fix.” The uChat app allows real-time chat with other BitTorrent users from directly within in the client.
And don’t forget, uTorrent is available for Mac and Linux.

I'm sure friends of mine will be stoked about the streaming features and what not. I guess I miss what utorrent was because I don't remember it taking up as much ram as it does now. And in any case I'm a usenet man

i still prefer 1.6.1 neat and clean, no call home shitz & no-traces for outside world.

i still prefer utorrent 2.0.4 the problem some trackers dosen't accept old clients so we need to update

i thought so for the longest as well, but i'm pretty sure it's 1.6 and not 1.6.1 be4 the "no no" update... if u will.

i used 1.85 for 3 years or some shit.. i've recently updated to 3.0 64 bit edition. meh.

I'm staying away from it. Will keep the latest update to 2 until trackers decide they don't like it. Any suggestions on a non-bloated client? Seems it's time to start looking. Freakin' "progress"...

MBM: you might want to check Halite out. It hasn't been updated for a while (August 2010) but it's very light and has most of the features available in the more "famous" clients - DHT, ipfilter support, protocol encryption and such.

2.0.4 is the most compatible version, not sure if halite is allowed on those torrent sites but definitely worth a look, i was thinking just getting more accustomed to using rtorrent at home. a lot of the additional features can probably be turned off in 3.0 im not too keen on updating to check it out though.

If you're on Windows then I second anon's suggestion. Few years ago when I was using Windows I switched from uTorrent to Halite and liked it just fine. Lightweight and fast. Really dug it. Besides that Deluge you should probably look into as well. I don't know how good it is on Windows, but on Linux it's an excellent client.
