• AMD Gives Money Back to Buyers of Both Six-Core CPUs and Radeon Cards

Not often do IT companies offer promotions on their products, but it seems Advanced Micro Devices figured it was time for a nice little, or in this case not so little, program involving its high-end CPUs and graphics cards.

As consumers know, AMD saw quite some success with its Radeon HD 5000 series of video cards in 2009 and last year.

It also managed to score sales of Thuban six-core central processing units, as they were much more affordable than Intel's units, albeit not as powerful.

Now, the HD 6000 line of cards is the real deal, so to speak, and while those battle NVIDIA's 500 series, the Phenom X6 CPUs have to contend with Intel's new and strong Core i7.

That said, the Sunnyvale, California-based company has launched what some may recognize as a rebate program involving Phenom and Radeon products.

Detailed in full on the official web page set up by AMD on its website, it is, basically, a means to give some customers part of their money back.

To be more specific, those consumers that buy an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T or 1100T along with one or more Radeon HD 6870, 6950 or 6970 boards will be given back the sum of 20 or 25.

For those that do not remember, the six-core 1090T works at 3.20 GHz, while the 1100T has a frequency of 3.30 GHz.

Those eligible will have to fill in a registration form and provide the electronic receipt or other documents from whatever retailer the products were bought through.

This offer will go for those items sold between 15 February and 31 March, 2011, with rebate requests acceptable until 14 April.

Bankers Automated Clearing Services (BACS) will be tasked with the actual payback and the countries where this offer is in effect are France, Austria, Germany and the United Kingdom. The US doesn't have this promotion, although some e-tailers (like Newegg), allow for $10-$25 instant discounts.

I'd be happy if they would go back to the practice of including a video game with purchase of a card .
