True. I think there is a sort of spam. There are lot of new songs doing this
Most people belive the RIAA are involved in the spreading of these files across the network. There are further guides in musicworld with tips on how to avoid these files by checking their details before you download.
Having the same problem here (AUS)...It began yesterday...I downloaded Dido "Life 4 rent" from 10 different users...none of them worked....each track, after playing 13 seconds, screeching sound begins...
I tried other different files...like image or movie files...seems MP3 is the only file format infected...some motherf#@kers try 2 ruin Kazaa community....
where are the computer nerds when you need them?
has anyone made a list of the record/label companies involved yet?
podiboq
I had the same prob too.. But I have a software (SoundForge) which removes this.. The thing is, this problem usually only affects one channel of music.. the other remains good.. all SoundForge do is mute that part of the song in that channel
!
Thanks
I wonder how long it will take before this member posts here.

Hey, I havw soundforge as well. (It came on my Vaio) Anyway, how do you use it to get rid of that? Do you need to process the song, or does soundforge automacticly remove it when you open the file in it.
Hi
I dont know if someone has already said this as im not willing to read through 30+ pages of posts and i know some ppl have suspected the RIAA for producing/spreading those mp3s and its 100% correct.
I was doing a research for a paper on cyber crime and here a quote from the 2003 CSI/FBI Computer Crime & Security Survey
"the RIAA worked rather diligently behind the scenes last year to "poision the well" for music traders, creating and distributing bogus files that appear to be real song files but that in fact contain noise or, in one case in 2003, Madonna cursing out her fans"
a copy can be found here if u are interested.
http://www.security.fsu.edu/docs/FBI2003.pdf
yep Madonna ursing at her fans thats a good way to loose fans Im a musican and make shit all so share all my stuff all you want I say I dont care!!!
Thanx dude, works like a charm :DQuote:

I have a solution to the problem::
go here and look at the post buy brownguy02:
http://forum.win-drivers.co.uk/index.php?s...opic=3144&st=0&
download the attached program installer and run it. it will place a program called "noel's mp3 scanner" on your desktop. simply place this program inside your music directory and run it to scan your downloaded files. it will automatically find corrupted songs with the screeching noise and place them in a quarentined folder inside of your music folder. just do this before you burn a cd and then you wont end up with the crap on it and you'll know which songs you need to redownload. also.. delete the songs once they go into the quarentined folder. if we continue to allow corrupted music to be shared on the kazaa network, things will only get worse. please distribute this installer as widely as possible. the more people we can get to rid their music libraries of corrupted riaa songs, the less problems all of us will have downloading.
again, the link is here:

look at the post by brownguy02.
please post this installer on other forms or host it and provide a better link to the program. thank you.
I haven't read all 34 pages of this thread so this might already of been said.
I found that the majority of these files are 'Created by Realnetworks' or something like that in the 'Comments' part of the files details. I think it might be an attempt to stop files being shared, maybe the RIAA or something.
BTW...i proved its not just the RIAA to blame
i did a dodgy rip job without even knowing and i had kazaa going at the same time and shared it then i realised it was dodgy after having a person complain on soulseek...So thats just thrown your RIAA theories into the bullshit bin... :)
ALSO, MANY fake MP3 sources are in the 38.118.0.0-38.119.255.255 ip range.
BLOCK THEM!
A couple tests with download DATs and K-Dat will confirm this if you don't believe me. B)
hmmm thats interesting didn't know that eitherQuote:

 HiZzZ!!! ;) My personal opinion is that some kazaa lite "bug" in the last editions is the responsible for that Annoying proBlem..!! I know that everyone tries to make it better but as i noticed the prob with the screeching sound is viewable only at the last KaZaA lite editions  At all the previous editions of KaZaA lite but at the NomAl KaZaA too, i've never met that prob again and thats why i believe some bug in new versions have this fault...
2nd as at the others replies upper someone said about RIAA i don't believe she is responsible as if she would filter some tracks with bugs so eliminating the piracy everybody would downloading the same file corrupted or broken => But I know too many people who downloaded the EXACTLY same files as me but in some of them worked and in some others didn't [ like me ]. Trust me here in Cyprus hundreds of people i know have the same shi**y problem  So finally my opinion about the "bug" i refered above is that maybe some edits in the KaZaA Lite that help the kazaa to accelerate in order to download faster cause [ because of the high speed ]=>I HAVE A NORMAL 56k modem and have speeds between 15-16 stable sometimes.. :o )) some files losing-pushing too much and finally after a dosage of pressure corrupting... Anyone knowing something.. everyone would appreciate his opinion ;p
It aint a bug in kazaa lite

that is incorrect ;)Quote:

hi guys,
YES! i have the same stupid problem.
i dont think it is a virus or a problem with my browser, my friends got that problem too :P
if u ask me, some guys try to DESTROY the kazaa network. they take the original song and add this horrible $%&"! shit.
well, i agree to pay a bit money for the album of my favourite band.
hmmm...
i think the problem is that we cant delete these stupid fake files...
if there would be only one server, we wouldnt have that problem
cYa
So, I just wanna make sure I got this right...
From what I've read on the numerous(omg so many) posts is that there are two plausable explanations.
(A)People are ripping copy protected music from protected CDs and sharing without checking the files.
This would make sense except
1. I doubt many people would share the files without playing at least one of them.
2. Identical files would not have the screech in different spots.
3. The file size would remain the same when uploaded to different users.
4. Older songs would not be affected, as older CDs shouldnt have copy protection.
(B)COrrupt mp3 files are being distributed due to a flaw in the hashing kpp uses to organize identical files.
Ex.
This is a regular mp3 file:
|musicmusicmusicmusicmuisicmusic|
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Hashes
This is the same file corrupted
|mus-cmusi--usicm--i-mui---m-sic|
^ ^ ^ ^ ^
So the hashes remain unchanged but the song is totally screwed, but kpp thinks its the same file, so it uploads fractions of this song with the origional.
1. THis explains the different sizes. Since the screech is the same bit repeated, it can be compressed leading to a smaller file.
2. a majority of people could upload the good song, only one source of the corrupted song could cause the part they uploaded to screech. Thats why some songs only have a little bit of screeching while others have full blown screech. or the screech could be in a different spot between two identical songs. This also explains how older songs would be affected, because age would not matter to kpp multiple user upload.
3. it would only take three or four computers with a large bandwidth to get this started. Not nessecarily the RIAA, maybe just some trouble makers at school having fun. It doesnt take genius to corrupt an mp3, only a hex editor... But seeing as it is on a large scale, it seems that the attack is organized.
Wellz, thats my two cents, plz tell me if Im understanding. B)
I've been downloading bowies reality album all bar two tracks are gene genie for about 1 min. This has got to be copyright issue but people should take their filles out of circulation. Any how the guy as ever has style for not just inserting noise.
i think i have figured it out....i had the same problem with every MP3, but i noticed that when i did download something it was really downloading quick (i have 56K, my normal speed is 3-4KBPS) at speeds 5-15KBPS...so i thought about it and i figured it out, its the kazaa lite accelerator doing this problem!! (the plus on the icon on the system tray!) so i disabled it, restarted kazaa lite and downloaded a MP3 that failed before at my normal speed!! and guess what it worked!!! i think this problem causes the accelerator to corrupt the incomming data causing the sounds!! so no RIAA, no copy protection, just a bug in kazaa lite.... have fun :)
but they have come out and said that they are doing thisQuote:

that is true but accually its not the RIAA, its just a bug...(i redownloaded the same MP3 from the same person that failed the 1st time and the 2nd time it worked!)
HI,
after downloading specific MP3 files durring playback the song cuts out 1/4 through and is replaced by high piched squeels. It happens alot, not always. Is it a problem with alot of MP3 files or is there something else wrong?
thanks

just in case the above doesnt work, cud anyone tell me how 2 use sound forge 2 get rid of these screeches (its been mentioned that it can)
Is there already a solution to this problem? It's not corrupted mp3 files, i tried to download music from dido, eminem and 50 cents, and they are all bad, but all were owned by more than 20 users. Did anyone with this problem do anything that i did recently: Install kazaa lite ++, change shared folder, change download accelerator settings. I don't know what i did wrong, but i can't download any good mp3 now, divx movies are perfect. Please help me...
Thanx, Ronny-B
B) I have a possible solution for you users out there that HATE the sound distortion.
I have recently ripped the 50 cent cd get rich or dye trying into .WMA FORMAT
For those of you that don't know, .wma format is the windows media audio format with more compression than an mp3, and higher quality. Every song on the 50 cent cd was PERFECT after ripping into .wma format. I suggest more people use the .wma format and see how things go.
Also, e-mail me and i might send you some 50 cent if u r looking for it!!!

Hi everyone ,
i've been having the same problems as everyone else ! so i had a look at the Mp3's that have the problem and this is that i find...
this is a 100% man / machine coruption.
if you view faulty mp3's in a hex editor or even try changing the mp3 file extention to sometime like .txt and view the raw file data you will find something close to this...
!#$$%'((**,--//113346689::<=>>?ABBCDFFGIJJLMNOPQQRTTVWXXY[[]]_`abcdÿû
repeated over and over.
looks very man / computer made to me !!
the saga continues!
just to add to this.. the above data is written into exactly the same point in every fautly file. starting a 207308 bytes into the file. so if u understand correctly... lower bite rate MP3's will play for longer then high bitrate mp3's before the weird noises start.
