i tried opening cmd. i still get the same error :-(. and i tried using the instructions from Nightwolf. Didnt work. Any other ideas????

Maybe it doesn't work in XP (I have 98). The only other thing I can suggest is try running in Windows 98 compatibility mode. Also, make sure you have DirectX 9 installed.
