I guess it is possible for a hacker to get through, and if s/he is determined s/he will anyways. There is no hardware that a good cracker cannot figure his way through. However, if you are really, really paranoid, then use something like Abtrusion Protector

I used to run abtrusion protector back when I was really paranoid myself, it is less confusing to the user and more difficult to hack than any firewall and it is free for personal use. It is just a hassle because anytime you want to do anything you have to tell it that it is okay...

A good place to look to is Here too if you still are paranoid, try Seroquel for your schizo stuff. It is good medicine for that.

I think as long as you do not have services like messenger, alerter, etc., it will take them a while to get anything.

Application protection system is more than a little annoying though.

Just turn off application protection if it bothers you. I actually think BlackIce is very good. I think it is the best.
