on your desktop or whereever call it anything

you can download updated lists of adblocks for your hosts files so dont worry about loosing these - but keep these for now.

any way now you now why these pages dont load - cause there ads.

the hosts file is really a rather in efficient way to block ads.
ending up with false positives and what not.
A large hosts file can also slow down your browser.

Firefox with the adblock extension, or just the adblock settings in your userChrome would be better, IMO.

no they wont the host file was intended for use back when the internet was only a handful of computers. Ip adresses and hostnames for every machine where stored there. these days there are far too many so we have dns servers to do the job.
