hey clocker i got the cpu installed, i got the psu installed, i got the heatsink and fan installed, i got the cd rom, floppy, and harddrive installed. but now
im having what seems like the easiest problem
i cant figure out how to get the io faceplate out because the one thats on my case wont work with my mobo, so i have the one that came with the mobo but i dont know how to install it, any help? if you need pictures or anything let me know
Usually they are completely interchangeable, and the one you don't want simply pushes out.
I can't remember if you said which case you've got, and to be honest I can't be bothered to look back. :zorro:
lol
thanks man ill try again right now with more force,(not like i need it anyway) but this is the case i have for right now, i will upgrade later
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...6&Sku=ULT31586
so i got that out by pushing the thing, then it flying around in the case, then my hand being scraped. then i installed the mobo with flying colors and now im looking how to install an sata hdd because ive only used an ata, it should take about 10 seconds then i gotta install graphics cards and what not, will update you later
okay so that finding out about the sata didnt work very well, i got everything installed, EXCEPT the harddrive and a fan or two
can anyone answer these questions
what do i need, to install a sata harddrive
i bought a 200gig maxtor sata oem from newegg so i have that
can i use this as the main drive? or does there need to be an ide in there somewhere
and last question
How?
How what?Quote:

ok im guessing all i need to pick up is an sata cable
will do today
Didn't the mobo come with SATA cables?
yeah haha i found em right after i posted
anyways i got everything installed its all working good, plus no burning smell, thats the best satisfaction
now im trying to boot the mobo driver disk
but for wierd reasons i cant use it, first
the cd rom is being detected as second, i dont know why
(i dont have any jumpers in and it is connected tip to tip on the ide ribbon)
also
the hard drive is not being recogognized, its saying no harddrive, do i need an ide harddrive?
i messed around with some settings and then it recognized it! but it said something about my mobo not supporting some sort of setting, what raid should i put it on i put it on stripping or something i think. helpzor pleasezor
i cant make one sata work, i dont know why. Can someone help?
How many and what type of drive are we talking about here?
Do you want them RAIDed?
If so, what kind?
This mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128306
and this harddrive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144184
i only have one of those harddrives and i want to put xp on it, and i want that to be the only drive in the computer. how do i do so
With the nf4 chipset you shouldn't have to do anything special whilst installing the HDD.
Hook up drive (data/power), install XP disc and boot to it.
Install as normal.
Where this gets confusing is when RAID enters the story.
Windows would not even think of RAIDing on it's own and with only a solo drive I can't figure out where the option is even coming from....
well it wanted to read the drive as a raid drive so i turned that off in the bios, but now in order to install the drivers since it wont read the disc, do i have to use a floppy drive and use the floppy disk drivers?or can i just install it later
I'm surprised clocker never told you to install the SATA drivers for Windows from your floppy.
I'm not.Quote:

If you're board differs, then I suppose you'll have to floppy your way to Nirvana.
Still you should have said so. I have a Gigabyte nf4 board and it required me to install my own drivers.Quote:

Yes install XP, then once ur in the blue screen part, once it is loading the files, it will ask you at the very bottom to press F6 or w/e it is to install the correct drivers (pay attention because I missed that part a few times when I installed my SATA drive).
wait so i only need to put that disc in as im installing xp or no?
You start the install normally (with the XP CD) and press F6 when prompted at the bottom of the screen (keep your eyes open, it comes up fast).
The install will stop after loading some files and ask for your "third party mass storage device drivers" and tell you to install the floppy disk.
Follow the prompts from there.
ok will try soon
Went shopping yesterday(sat) and bought couple more parts:
Enermax EG-495P-VE SFMA NoiseTaker P Series 485 Watt ATX Power Supply w/ Dual Fan, Smart Fan, P4, SATA $89
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index...322&cid=PS.808
For this PSU, the ratings are as follow:
3.3 V=32A
5 V=32A
12V1=18A
12V2=18A
12Vtotal=32A
LG DVD-+RW dual layer $50
Stealth Case Fan $10
Arctic Sliver 5 thermal paste $10
Questions:
1. I know my PSU is pretty good, but I think it is overkill even if I should be overclocking? Is it too much power?
2. How do I remove the original thermal paste that came with the AMD cpu without scratching the heat sink?
3. Where does the stealth 80mm case fan go? I can't seem to find a tutorial for case fan installation
thanks in advance for replies
1 more question:
how much thermal paste should I put between the athlon 64 3200+ (sok 939) and the original heatsink that came with it?
1. You cannot have too much power.
2. You can leave the stock thermal pad in place. It works fine (large surface area for heat transfer). If you really need to remove the pad then use your fingernail and some acetone.
3. Fan placement varies from one case to the next. You should already know where it goes when you buy it.
Extra question: A very thin layer.
Thanks for the correction. :dry:Quote:
