The max for 56K is NOT 7KB/s. It's about 5,6 KB/s.
You can't simply divide 56 by 8. Some extra bits are used to be able to transfer 1 byte of data.

Hi,
Complete novice here...I have Freeserve B/B through a 'phone line...My D/L speeds are a joke on the new Kazaa.. 0.50 > 6.00 or higher...my inconing port says 2228 (not 12 whatever), what can I do.....HHHEELLPPP!!!!!!
:D Hi Im a DSL user and its done the trick fo me Cheers
It did nothing for me. :( I have 56/k though. The most my connection has been steady at is about 6 kb/s. I have hit 25 kb/s but it is only for about a second and a half.
I don't know why but ...
... someday, we'll itch and ponder why certain things WORK, and cannot be explained too easily.
Great tip! One of my d/l's doubled in speed (2 user source only!). Wait, make that 2 of my downloads (out of 2).
If only we can tell why it works (or not) .. but then again, no more 'magic' that way!
...
Dsl, dsl, dsl. Can't stop being amazed at 40.0kb/s.
I tried this and saw no significant difference in download speeds. I did, however, find that I could no longer use kazupernodes while on the new port. Kazupernodes worked again when I switched back to the old port.
I guess this is one of those tips that works under some conditions but not as well in others (like many tips, unfortunately.)
why this hopeless thread is growing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This worked when I first tried it but then later on it slowed down my speeds. I Quickly changed it back.
Incredible! lol. i went from 2kb to 40 kb by changing my port to its defualt! maybe thats the secret... use 32656 for about a day then change back
I noticed a 1Kb/s-2Kb/s change.
I've got a friend working at my ISP and the way it was explained to me was that heavy traffic use on similar ports on a single ISP will cause bottlenecks. So default port of 1214 will always be slow. Set it to anything between 10,000 and 65535 (min and max free port in windows ) will show an increase. So if more people are setting their port to 32656 on a single isp, that port eventually will slow down too.
Mine got multiplied by 10, thanks :)
heheh...32656, the hell? That's my zipcode. neh..why not.
 @ the above post
So is it a case of testing which one is best for you?
This idea worked absolutely perfectely, apart from if u are dling more than 1 file they slow right down
But i was wondering... where didi u get the port no 32656 from?
100% work
am downloading three files
before change
1- show 6 hours
2- show 20 hours
3- show 257 hours
after
1- show 2 hours
2- show 14 hours
3- show 105 hours
i did this at the sametime. i don't know or i don't understand what did 32656 do but it cut the time by half ...
thanx
this tip is working 100% for me my DL's r going gr8
yep did nothing.
It didnt worked really well, and you cant connect to supernodes on that port, so i switched back
options -> firewallQuote:

It didn't work for me, just slowed down my speeds :( mine seems to work just fine in port 1277
That is fast
this is only a glitch in the matrix!
Its seems all of you will be having de-ja-view very soon!

well you basically have to keep changing it and in the process are messing up your uploaders, after a while you get a lot of hits on your port and that kinda cloggs up your bandwidth so when you change ports you get free flow for a bit

There's a problem with doing this repeatedly to speed up your connection:
Just because your KL++ quit listening on an ip port doesn't mean people QUIT trying to connect on that ip port! So that continues to eat both download AND upload bandwidth (for the TCP/ip SYN ACK reply data packet.)
If you're sharing LOTS (1,000+) of files, then you can expect to receive FAR more upload requests than you can fill. It's less likely to happen if you're behind a router and have a LAN ip on your KL++ computer, but it can still happen while you're continuously on KL++ and sharing.
To avoid this, you have to share less -- or rather share MORE rare stuff and LESS common stuff that people can already/still find elsewhere.
Also, to get out of an upload flood/overload situation:
Try setting uploads to 9 or more, letting them all fill up, then turning sharing OFF.
Those uploads will continue till they complete or fail, but NEW uploads can't start.
When most of the uploads have quit, turn on sharing again for a short interval and let it fill up again and turn sharing OFF again.
While sharing is OFF, new searches cannot find your files and those trying to download from you can only find you because they have your ip address PERMANENTLY SAVED in their unfinished downloads .DAT files.
So by starting lots of uploads and turning off sharing, you upload to OLD requests without getting 100's of NEW ones per hour!
Also, disable allow listing of your shared files by other users if you haven't already. This will prevent (at least till you get this problem under control) new people finding your files and trying to download LOTS of them.
That's the problem with being able to find and download files from millions of users -- they can also find and TRY to download files from you... all at once!

Hmm.. I did it, and my software dowload isn't going too well, but the song is. Maybe this is cause I played with the Jump Supernodes too though?
Mat
once your download has the source ip it doesn't matter what supernode you are on, unless the sn itselfe is a crapy oneQuote:

i tried this method and it kranked my dl from 56kb/s to anywhere from 90-160kb/s.

i hope this tip works for other people using k++ also

didnt do anything for me! I'm dissapointed. Most of the tips here dont work for me :(
