Um... no thanks.

Man now I have to wait a week, this is going to kill me. :(
a week for what?
Heh, my ISP is SBC(my mom works for 'em so we get discount :01: ) and on the internet package it says "up to 1.5 MB download" but in practice the download speed is only about 384k.
Up to is different from what you get. But hey, anything beats dialup. Plus SBC fought against the RIAA when they started their "sue 'em all" campaign and they never bitched at us for downloading too much. Then again, I dont have my bandwidth maxed out 24/7 like some people here.
The DSL service, it gets activated on the 25th. :(Quote:

It most likely going to use pppoe. If your using windows try rasppoe.
http://www.raspppoe.com/
you should learn the difference between a bit and a byte. internet bandwidth is advertised by isps in bits, so your internet package does NOT say "up to 1.5MB" (1.5 megabytes), it says "up to 1.5mb" (1.5 megabits). in contrast, most windows programs measure internet bandwidth in bytes.Quote:

so if internet explorer or whatever program is telling you that you're getting 384 kilobytes per second, then you are getting nearly twice as much bandwidth as promised by the isp. :P
Actually it's mistaking 1 inch for 8 inches. 2/3 of a foot. ;)Quote:

Thats just how fast someone could send data through your computer, but ofcourse no one does as you don't have 10mb.
such a way with words

That explains his 10Mbps connection.
Beautiful, thanks for bumping it.
yeah yeah. to be precise, yeah. :PQuote:

Around 187kb/sec? Thats wonderful compared to 4.5kb/sec dial-up. :D
So 8 bits = 1 byte, I've learned something new! :01:
I have the 1.5Mbps and I have gotten in the 200s on downloads...but yah usually around 150ish but mines 60 bucks a month
You pay $60 a month for 1.5Mbps DSL?
Wow I feel lucky. :)
Not to brag or anything...
EDIT: I wonder how much they'll charge after the first year...
yeah $60 for 1.5 megabit is a pretty high price. i'm paying about $40 for 3 megabit... was paying approx the same as bigdawg, but the trick is that some isps will keep charging you the "introductory" price if you sign up for another one-year commitment.Quote:

I did the same and now I pay $29.99.Quote:

Well I got my self-install kit today, and there is no NIC, even though the FAQ said it comes with one. Oh well, not really a problem.
Now I just have to wait until Friday before I can hook anything up...
This thread just keeps getting bumped :DQuote:

Only one and a half hours to go! In one and a half hours (12:00am), it will officially be the 25th of March, and I can set up my DSL.
Damn the wait is killing me, if anything goes wrong (because I'm on a shitty PC), I will go crazy!
2:13 a.m. here, but curious as to your reaction once your hooked up :w00t:
45 minutes left! :w00t:
I just really hope nothing goes wrong, my computer is crappy, and just might die recognizing a new connection. If I don't post later on in the evening, something has happened, and I have thrown my computer out a window. :P
Why not throw it out now???
Pics, please........ :P
You'll find a way to buy a new one...........
Not if he holds on to it as it goes out the window. :unsure:Quote:

So this is what its like to browse the web with DSL! :w00t:
Man I've been missing out for all these years... its so cool, I just turn my computer on, open Firefox, and go. No more dialing up. :01:
My download speeds went from 4KB/sec to 180kb/sec. :w00t:
They didn't have it activated at 12am, but its up and running now! :01:
congrats RTJ, and enjoy yourself, bet you don't sleep much tonight

It's in the "look at how excellent my new computer is, it's better than any of yours" thread.
It kinda' backfired on him, what with the incredibly inflated processor speed.
Im bored and needed a good laugh so bumpage again :rolleyes:Quote:
