You have to stick them on the phone-jacks to filter out the DSL from your phoneline.

Phone cable goes in one hole, DSL cable in the other :D

Read that carefully, it's the one bit that even experienced users get wrong. They often put one at the start of an extension cable with the cable in the phone side, then put another just before the DSL modem, this time on the DSL side.

Of course the first filter has blocked the DSL signal so nothing gets through.
