Regardless, you should get at least a 9600 pro. From what I have been reading, all three are great overclockers.

Ok well the 9500Pro beats both the 9600Pro and 9600XT hands down. They are all about the same price, so I'm thinking I should go with the 9500Pro...DUH lol
Damn 3rd gen I bet your card can beat the 9500Pro...lol I wonder if I can overclock that thing as much as you overclocked urs..
Which would yall choose?
Radeon 9500Pro 128MB, or
Radeon 9600XT 256MB? They are the same price.
i'd go for the 9600xt personally, if only for half life 2 freeQuote:

Well the 9500Pro has TWICE the pipelines..will that make alot of diff in picture? And I dont really think i want to DOWNLOAD ( <_< ) HL2...I would take the hardcopy tho.
the benchmarks should tell you all you need to know about that :)Quote:

Lol ok well then the 9500Pro wins bigtime. And the 9600XT is BLACK..which is tight but I want a red ATI card lol. And it has a SMALL heatsink and SMALL fan..Not good for overclocking at ALL...I think the 9500Pro will be much more overclockable.
Here we go again, big dawg...
The 256 version of the XT has slower rams. The 9500 pro will be an overall better card for the money (if you can still get your hands on it).
Edit: why do you care what color the freaking card is?
Cuz im a picky mother fucking son of a bitch...and if im getting an ATI the motherfuckers gona be RED i tell you...I will get the 9500Pro bitches.
IM ORDERING IT....OK WITH EVERYONE?

Well you can rest assured that the 9500 pro ATI card is a red PCB.Quote:

Actually big dawg, I noticed that the 9500 pro that newegg has is a Sappiretech version, which is one that I would prefer for myself if I could choose. So what if it is black?

so the middle range ati card, the 9600xt, keeps up with the top of the range nvidia card, the 5900xt
yeah, go nvidia <_<
;)
5950 is nvidias top card <_<
and it goes hand2hand with the 9800xt.... tsk tsk
haha fo real! ATI cards WHOOP at higher resolutions and lots of filtering you stupid bitch...im going for the mother fucking 9500PRO! I will have spent about $600 for my new computer with everything! My gparents gave me $500 and I got another $100 from everywhere else...lol so basicly I got an AWESOME new computer for Xmas :D
fine, whatever, but the 9600xt keeps up with the second best (?) nvidia card then... ;)Quote:

DWK all of your spamming has made me loose ALL respect for u..and i dont think anyone else respects you either. ATI IS THE CLEAR WINNER its sooo much freakin better at high resolution...and the 9800XT beats it...with a HIGH resolution and lots of filtering the 9800XT whoops it..
wheres the STFU guy when you need him?? haha
im confused...... 9600xt is basically ati's "second" card.....
btw.... why insults bigdawg? :(
edit: BY THE WAY...we are talking about cards in the 100-200 dollars range...
edit2: what spamming? we are talking about something and im not blurting out dumb answers.... im contributing to the topic.... oh and plz dont think i moved from my chair because you "lost all respect for me"
big dawg, did you notice that the 9600 xt beats the 5900 xt at high res with AA and AF.Quote:

Listen big dawg, let me explain it to you: high res with high AA and AF is a good thing because that means that the scenes are being rendered in high quality: something you will learn about very soon...
in ati's current line up, the 9600 is the second card to the 9800 (the 9700 isn't in the new line up)Quote:

the nvidia 5600 is supposed to be the direct competitor for the radeon 9600 series, but there's no competition there, really

ignore this guy, he must have some serious issues that he never resolved from his childhood. Maybe his mother dropped him on his head. Stop paying him any attention.
not precisely..... price range is what dictates a direct competitor....and the price range we are talking (100-200), the 5900 IS a competitor....wether its a better card or not....Quote:

remember there are many different nationalities on the board here
prices in one country might not square with those in other countries
plus 100 units could be a rather large gap (depending on the currency)
:)
And let me say this as a disclaimer: I have no feelings against Nvidia.
As soon as they release a respectable product, I will respect it.
Since the DirectX9 environment has been introduced, ATI has been the king. Plain and simple. However, that was not the case with the DirectX8 environmenrt, where Nvidia was the clear winner.
So there still is a future for Nvidia: DX10 and PCI express too. It's not all over for them. But there will always be a certain percentage of losers around who don't read the results, they just like to start arguements for no reason. I choose to ignore such fools. ;)
sry...as i said before....Quote:

i missed that edit. i apologise
however, a 100 dollar price range is rather large, perhaps the range should be reduced to 100-150 or 150-200?
yea 2 bad directx, being a more "profitable" system, took over opengl :(Quote:

its cool....v0od0o is coming back to take opengl back to the top over this dx8 and dx9 cards...
EDIT: k 150-200 :)
Yeah a 5900 isnt under $200 USD....
@ adam...yes I know about the filtering and everything pretty well..does it just filter everything and make it look better?
And what are the two types? FSAA and antitroscopic...or something? whats the diff and whats there purpose
Thanks :D
***goes to get the credit card***
http://www.pricewatch.com/1/37/5587-1.htm
those are not even just regular 5900 but 5900SE (or as ppl call it, 5900xt)
EDIT: btw, the 5900 is bundled with Call of DutyQuote:
FSAA: Full Screen Anti-Aliasing
FSAA usually involves drawing a magnified version of the entire screen in a separate framebuffer, performing AA on the entire image and rescaling it back to the normal resolution. As you can imagine, this is extremely CPU intensive. You will never see non hardware accelerated FSAA.
Anisotropic Texture Filtering
Anisotropic filtering is the best but most CPU intensive of the three common texture filtering methods. Trilinear filtering is capable of producing fine visuals, but it only samples from a square area which in some cases is not the ideal method. Anisotropic (meaning 'from any direction') samples from more than 8 pixels. The number of sampled pixels and which sampled pixels it uses depends on the viewing angle of the surface relative to your screen. It shines when viewing alphanumeric characters at an angle.
Well let me put it to you this way: with 4X AA and 8X AF NFSU looks so good that it is almost perfect visually. That is one of the reasons I have been continually recommending that you get NFSU and try it. It is a lot more fun than any other game I have played recently, and the image quality is so realistic as well as the keyboard reactivity.Quote:

What is spectacular about AA and AF is that you get higher texture quality overall.
If you turn it up too much then the performance of the card will turn into the likes of a slide show. Use what I listed above and you will be amazed. It is that simple.
Playing good computer games gets close to simulating reality enough so you forget where you are and get completely sucked into the game. I have been experiencing this a lot recently, and hope you do too.
:)
Edit: All games you play that are written for the DirectX9 API will look better with AA and AF.
yeah but the 5900se is a pos prob..what do you do with those filters? do you turn both of them all the way up and use them at the same time?
may be.....but until you try it you cant be sure of this....thats the bad thing about shopping hahaQuote:

about the filters....yea all up and try if ur card can handle em
edit: oh adam already answered....there u go :)
@ ADAM
With the pretty high performance parts I have and the 9500Pro...what should I turn the AA (which is that antitroscopic or w/e?) and AF (is that FSAA??) too? Like what settings you think? Also what is ntfu of whatever? I play BF 1942 :D :D I love that game
:beerchug: cheers to adam for beeing a good bud and helping me out
I just ordered mine..cheers :beerchug:
One more thing...It comes with the standard connector, and then that DVI adapter thing that has a longer slot to plug it in? Which do I use? Should I plug my monitor directly into the card or use that adapter..w/e its for.
So, let me get this right.
Your going to get a 2500+ and overclock it.
Your going to get the best RAM with the tightest timing to overclock that.
Your going to get a new graphics card and overclock that.
And you are wanting this computer for the occasional game of BF 1942 ?
Can I ask you a serious question? Why even overclock for that? And why even get that 'best RAM' etc...
No, I dont plan on overclocking my Graphics card or my ram. Just my CPU maybe later...but nothing will be overclocked for now or the next month or 2. Can someone help me with that connector or something?
what connector?
the "regular" should do fine.... but i dunno what connector ur talking about....
plug it directly into the card...the other one is for dual monitor i think....but DAMMMMMNNNNN going from a system w/ a celeron and mx440 to a barton 2500 and a 9500 pro
lucky motherfucker...im stuck here w/ a amd 2100 and a very soon to arrive 9600xt (the gfx card isnt too bad)
lol whyd you get the 9600XT??? you should have gotten the 9500Pro
