What are you going to do in this day and age to protect yourself and possiby the ones you love ,a bow and arrow is laughable.

That is one of the most laughable little tirades I've ever seen. Archery is something to be taken seriously - it is an enjoyable recreational pastime, as much socially as sporting. Not everything comes down to violence - I don't own a bow so I can protect myself with it - the very idea is laughable, as you said (albeit for the wrong reason).

"Protecting the ones you love" - isn't it a fact that the majority of household gun deaths are caused by family members shooting in error? Think about that. Reason, clear-headedness and the Emergency Services will get any civilised person out of a dangerous situation admirably. And anyone sensible doesn't get into life-or-death situations easily.
