It was sent to the Pope by Robert the Bruce after defeating the English in the wars of independence. It was signed by his Barons. It was unique in that it set out that the King's responsibility was to his people and could be removed if he failed them (as opposed to the Dvine Right of Kings view held by other Monarchs)
The Pope had on the request of the English King excommunicated the entire Scottish people. The Pope was moved by the Declaration and re-instated the Scots and told the English King to STFU!

Thanks biggles :) I put that in, and it ties in nicely with what I was trying to say. I'll have to read up on my history, don't know too much about Scotland's war of independence (that's what it is I am assuming, correct me if I'm wrong please) sounds quite interesting.
Whilst (very) loose with the facts regarding romantic interest (and scant on some of the political ones) Gibson's Braveheart movie covers the main early battles from about 1300 onwards reasonably accurately.Quote:
