Um.
Just download to D:.
I can't see the problem.
when i try tht the program installs on c, so it uses space on c and i dont have any more on it and and the main reason is i cant update it to windows sp2 cause theres not enough space
what program is it?
2 hd's or 1 hd with 2 partitions on it?Quote:

In the program's settings set it to download to the D drive.
Find the folder it was downloading to and cut/paste the files to your D drive.
Think you need to format the hd and load a fresh copy of windows, redirecting your downloads to the bigger partition is easy but if you want to install sp2 then formatting is your only option(unless someone knows how to change a partition size?).
in order to reformat i would need the windows xp disc or recovery cd's right... Well i dont have either if thats the case
You don't know anyone with an xp disc?Quote:

You can change the partition sizes on a Sony VAIO PC/Laptop using Partition Magic.
I've done it.
my .02¢
ive used a dell disc on a compaq...
With using partition magic can i change it without having do reinstall windows??
I think you can make it bigger, but I'm not certain.
If you can connect another drive you can copy the partition, then delete the original partition, then copy back to a larger partition.
Installing the OS from a non-Sony OEM XP is doable, your problem would be drivers.Quote:

So tell me if this would work.. copy the main Hd (the sony one) to a external hd. then erase the sony hard drive and copy the external hd back to the sony hd.. would tht fix the partitions on it and restore it back to the full 30gb??
There are programs to change partition sizes Partition Magic, Acronis Disk Director (I think) etc. They will take freespace from one partition and add it to the other. Getting an external drive is another fix, transfer the D partition to it and you can open up the new space.
I go with the partition magic option, suggested earlier. It's safe and simple.
I use it whenever I want to re-size or re-map partitions.
Copying and pasting data will work.
Copying and pasting programs won't, as the registry will have the wrong settings and they probably won't work.
I agree with the Partition Magic option. You will have to get version 8 to work with XP. Load it and follow the directions. You can create, move, copy, delete, and merge partitions. It's a piece of cake!!
I used partition magic and hit merge partitions cause i thought tht was the right thing to do inorder to get the hard drive back to one partition but when it was in the process it got an error and it deleted partition d with all the installed programs on it. i tried to recover it but couldnt.
