Why do some prefer x264 over xvid? I've been looking for like a versus chart with no luck. If x264 is so much better then why is dvix the scene standard?

Ofcourse x264. I still download my shows in xvid because it's smaller and faster.
I watch 720p and see the difference on my 15,4" laptop screen. I don't see how you couldn't see the difference.

XviD has more support, but I prefer the higher quality of h264. It might be larger filesize but it sure looks way better
I like x264 because it's good quality & good picture
Just to clear something up here, h264 is a more efficient codec than XviD/DivX. It qualitatively looks better than xvid at the same resolution and lower bitrates. Ergo, the file size would be smaller than that of the xvid if the two were at the same resolution.Quote:

well, for series like lost, i think xvid is the best choice as it is smaller in size, but it is the truth that x264 is the true hd format,xvid doesn't claim to be hd.also, x264 requires more system resources and is huge in size...
