you could use the windows remote desktop thats built into windows.
or could try ultr@vnc from http://www.uvnc.com/
teamviwer and crossloop are good proggies too if you want a gui to go along with it
Windows live messenger with controle remote.
Another vote for Windows Messenger. I've it numerous times over the Internet to help people with their computers. It's quick and the other person can see what you are doing and interact as well.
For the most simple experience possible, do Windows Remote Desktop....
If you want something a little more interesting I would suggest a program called "Hamachi". This program creates a virtual LAN between you and another computer. I would suggest getting it from a torrent site though, it looks like you have to enter some weird information in Hamachi's site in order to download the free program.
Logmein free i find is the best and easiest it also encrypts all sessions.
i used to like logmein alot but it seems that over time their software has gotten slower
Thanks for all your valuable suggestions guys... :)
The best and easier and fastest way to do it for "begginers" is crossloop
www.crossloop.com
it's a 1-2mb file. Very easy to use, all you have to do is:
1. Hoster puts a password and press connect
2. Client puts same password in other tab and press connect
3. Hoster Accepts
and your connected, it's as easy as typing a little password.
It works on VNC so it should haev all the custom settings if you rightclick the viewer.
I use tightvnc, it's easy and free.

I do home user computer repairs, but if it's just the OS that's messed up and I don't need to make a house call, what would you suggest is the simplest to use, especially for the customer so they don't have to do much of anything, especially if they aren't very good with computers.
As a PC geek I know a lot of these programs, but I've never used them, and I'm considering using one for remote support...
THANKS
you can try teamviwer ;) it's usualy and safe
