I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
So, what's the best anti-virus program to use – if you want to just buy it? So here's what we've found.
•Cyberdefender – Great scanner that removes Trojans, spyware, but need upgrade to remove viruses, comes with 24/7 computer help. NASDAQ Company.
•Norton 360 – Expensive, my experience with Norton was not so good, and it was slow. NASDAQ Company
•Prevx – Good free scanner, cartoon look, only scans – need to buy to remove anything.
•PC Tools – nice interface, private company so who knows how stable they are, but software is fully functional for free.
•SuperAntiVirus – Corny name, but has 12 million users, but I found it a little slow.
•AVG – popular for the free version but it only works 30 Days before you must buy, but we found it slow, and the paid version offers nothing additional.
Most of 'em offer a paid version for about $29, except for AVG which is 34. Were thinking about the Cyberdefender, but we wanna knwo what anyone else is using and what they think.
Which is the best free version of anti-virus software on the market?
Who will offer the best protection? the best speed balance? Thanks for the help on this one.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
None of those.
ESET NOD32 is the best pay for.
There are class act freeware one's though, that are just as good as the pay for ones...
DO NOT buy Mcafee or Norton, they are the anit-christ to computers.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
I use Avira Personal. freeware :01:
Free version has a popup everytime the scanner is updated but there is a way to hide/disable those. ;)

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
i use KIs 9. its pertty good. download the trial ver and try it out

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
I have used several Anti virus programmes but find that Kaspersky is the best. Common for all of them is that eventhough they offer a free trial or scan, then you have to buy it to get value and protection.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
If I was going to buy one it would be Avira first followed by Kaspersky.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
I use Systamatec Corp, Seems like its not a huge resourse hog and catches most things. I have never actually paid for one but I had a good experience with AVG when it was free, seemed to update its database a lot.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
Kaspersky or Eset are the only two I'd shell out for .
-
Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
AVG free is still available, and works great for me atleast..
-
Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
ESET NOD32 best in business
ESET NOD32 is the best in the business. DO NOT GET Systimatec. IT IS THE WORST!!!!!!!!!! and a nightmare to remove.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
Norton 2009/10 Internet Security. Trust me people say it's heavy and all but it takes up 3MB (yes, 3!!) after install and after running Norton Insight. Kaspersky for comparison takes up 16MB.
And the detection is top notch from yearly tests, the firewall is impenetrable, and it doesn't pop up mesages every time something tries to connect to the internet.
Norton sucked before, in 2006 days. Currently it's above everything else.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
I have had very few virus problems with Norton n the past. Stopped using it when they got a little wiser with their protection. Tried some of the free stuff and noticed that it did not protect as well as I had hoped.
Using Symantec Endpoint Protection (on TL, if you need it). No serial, hassle, nothing. Designed for Enterprise. I have not had any problems. I would pay for it if I had to. Yeah, I like it THAT much. :D

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
Everyone one can recommend all they want, but only "1" Anti Virus has been #1 in VB test results for like 5 years, ESET.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
i tested many AV programs but i always keep comming back to kaspersky :>
-
Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
I'd suggest running on AVG Free, no need to buy anything, it does the job really well. If not, try for Kaspersky!

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
Kaspersky or Eset, there's not much to choose between them, my own choice was Eset.
For business use I found Eset's management interface easier to use so that's the one I recommend to my clients.
Avoid McAfee, Symantec, AVG unless you want your system to run like it's powered by a Pentium II.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
^^^ Wow, such insight. Any reasons as to why it's the best? IMO ESET is the perfect blend of speed, performance and usability.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
imo i think you should go with kaspersky, its reliable, fast and does not bug you

It's the same for me, except that I keep going back to bitdefender.
I started out buying bitdefender when it was number 1 in the charts back in those days, then dropped it so I can explore other anti-viruses... and started using cracked versions of this and that... for some reason I never got used to manouvering any of them, even nod32. Plus I kinda got tired of having to constantly reinstall or find new serials because the old ones kept getting blacklisted.
So last week I decided to do away with all the hassle of using pirated stuff and forked out some cash for bitdefender again. It's relatively cheap compared to the rest of the well-reviewed ones and it allows me to install on 3 computers.
So far no complaints.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
I've used Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, and Kaspersky is by far the best out of them. I have numerous problems and issues with the latter two but Kaspersky worked like a charm and it got rid of the spyware/trojan's Norton couldn't find which was the original purpose for switching over.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
I'm a Mac user but just about to get a Netbook. I'm looking at Avast, Avira and AVG as they're free but unsure which to get.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
KIS is best choice for your computer. It has simple interface, easy to use. And it really really good for virus.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
Ive been using Panda for years, always does the job, never slows down. And after the rebate its only like 10 bux.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
first of all buying an anti-virus software is completely unnecessary seeing as the best one is completely free - Avira Personal, as Ike said there is a pop up but that can be easily disabled if it bothers you. http://www.av-comparatives.org/ has unbiased stats on detection rates and such if you want to check it out. I see people raving about nod32 but in my experience despite having a low memory footprint has a shit detection rate.

Ah, and Avira has too high of one also, almost everything downloaded is detected by th is AV, compare results, upload something that Avira thinks is a virus to virus.org or virustotal, and 50% of the time Avira will be wrong.

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
The OP asked about A/V(not all in ones), Kaspersky ticks all the boxes for me.
-
Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?

Re: I wanna buy anti-virus - which is best?
Where can I find a version of Kaspersky 2010 with a trial-resetter application?
Trial resetter application = Being able to reset the trial version activation every month
I'm Using Kaspersky 7.0 At the moment and I have to reset the trial every month.. I don't need activation keys or anything like that
