Iam dumb but not that dumb. Perhaps i worded it wrong i mean The name diplay in Systems folder.
I need my name to activate XP, not User name
Cheers
Mate tri.
Right click "my computer">properties, then click the computer name tab. :D
@ SMID
Run regedit
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
You'll see your sons name, change it to yours then reboot.
Edit. This name is not used to activate xp.
@Kunal - stop spamming.
@Globalterinator....... Please go and register with a name that isn't quite so long; you're making the board look very messy. :(

I was told my name has to be the same as before, to reactivate XP is this just Bull Shit.
What Kunal trying to say
your talkin about the 'registered to' name, yeah?
thats all set up during activation, probably will have to re-do the whole set up
oops, i see the reg key LT was talkin about...yeah, just change that
If M$ have told you this, ask them what you would have to do if you bought a system with the installed WinXP OS second hand and needed to re-activate.Quote:

I presume you have the same surname as your son? M$ should be able to guide you through the process of un-registering XP, entering new information and then give you the correct key to unlock it.
Changing the registry entry will only affect windows, i thought this was what you were asking. It will not change the details you registered with Micro$oft.
Registration and activation are not related, you'll be fine. When it comes to next reinstalling Windows, then you can register your own name. For the meantime, i wouldn't worry about it.
i second that <_<Quote:

I think the guy has received something like 50 emails from people complaining about his long name. He's said he's going to register with another name.
He must really enjoy getting spam.
